Phat Cat pickups buzzing

I have built a telecaster style guitar from scratch from kit parts and have installed a set of Phat Cat pickups in it. The problem is that they buzz/hum a LOT. I have double checked all my wiring and have even shielded the control and pickup cavities with shielding tape but still have buzzing. I have also installed a phase switch on the bridge pickup with a push/pull pot. The strange thing is when I switch the bridge pickup out of phase, the buzzing stops, even if I'm just using the bridge pickup by itself. Oh yeah, when I touch the control plate or pickups the buzzing gets louder.

Does the hum change at all when you move the guitar around? If it does, you're likely not experiencing a grounding issue, and you've just got single coil pickups in a high noise environment. If the hum doesn't change when you move around, you'll want to check all your grounds to make sure they are connected properly and that you don't have any cold solder joints.

sounds like something to do with wiring (probably grounding) because if it was just standard single coil buzz, touching the parts shouldnt affect the buzz to be louder or quieter

Re: Phat Cat pickups buzzing

I took the pickup wires out off the circuit and hooked it up directly to a output jack and I still get the buzz, so it is either the environment I'm in or these pickups just make that much noise.
Thanks.
