Phat cat and Gibson P94 neck position review/comparison

You have probably heard that the Gibson P94 is wery "stringy" sounding, that is totally correct. The P94 does not add allot to your natural guitar sound at all. It has no certain flavor or a trait that I can tell that I am playing a P94. Wery clean sounding with no added grit or character. Some would call it anonymous and boring.

The P94 has a big low end with punchy mids with nothing special in the highs not bright at all. Never gets muddy or taken over by bass in the neck.
This pickup shines in the mids thats about it.

Phat cat is super bright! Reminds me of a strat single coil caught me by big suprise my tone control suddenly has a use.
It has allot of grit and flavor with its own personality. Compared to the P94, phat cat does not have that big low end or bass, but far from lacking it just not as much.
Wery punchy, lively and gritty! To my ears the phat cat is in the middle of a humbucker and a strat cingle coil sound. The brightness and responsiveness of a strat pickup and the fatness of a humbucker. :))))

I hope this helps!

I regretted getting rid of my P94 neck on my LP. Was wired to a 1 meg pot, no tone, with a treble bleed circuit. One of the best neck pup sounds I've heard. Crystal clear and full....no mud. Sold the set cause I hated the bridge sound.....arghhhhhh!!!!!

I had tried the phat cats on my LP too. The neck P94 (wired as mentioned above) was far more versatile for my taste. BUT....my new fave is the Fralin twangmaster neck (factory wind specs)...holy moly. :)

I can relate to you about selling it, I also had a set in one of my guitars did not like the bridge so i sold it but loved the neck. I also regret it :( LOL

That twangmaster looks interesting, just when I tought my tone search was over.. How would you describe it compared to the phat cat?

Another ball park. A fat strat pup. True single coil sound. I'm not sure what true wide range pups sound Like....but I would imagine the design is close.

Clean, fat and beautiful...at least in the guitar I'm using it in.
