Phat Staple/ Eclair

So I've been thinking for a while now of sticking some of these Duncan custom shops in my LP style James Tyler Variax, staple in the neck, eclair in the bridge. Does any one have any ideas about how these might compliment each other or suggestions? Also just opinions of the pickups themselves in general.

Re: Phat Staple/ Eclair

I only have the neck Staple, which is probably the case with most people, as the bridge model is too bright and thin for most players. The neck is very clear, lots of high end, a great neck PU. I've never adjusted the pole piece height; I don't think it was worth Seymour's effort, or the added cost, to make them adjustable. They're very tall, and need an extra deep slot, or they won't fit. Most solid bodies probably require some woodworking.

Don't know what an éclair is, but I've paired my Staples with Rio Grand Bastard P-90's, which are a warm PU. Works for me.

Yes, I'm taking my jtv- 59 in to a pro to do a whole make over with the pickups, install a bigsby, locking tuners, new nut etc... All custom work I don't have the skills for. The eclair is supposed to be like a JB but more smooth and buttery and less ggrrrrrr, seemed like a good compliment to a jazzy neck pickup like the staple. What I'm curious about is whether I need to worry about output difference and if these two guys would blend well together. I want a good clean jazz tone from my neck and I want the smooth overdrive from the bridge, seems like an ideal pair for me but I'm not very experienced with this stuff.

Obviously having woodwork done to my guitar means I'm pretty sold on these staples, Seymour's sound demos are amazing! But if I'm gonna spend this much money on customizing a do it all guitar I wanna know what I'm getting into and some suggestions from more knowledgable peeps (Much appreciated )

Staples have plenty of output, they have 6 magnets in them. You can always adjust the height of either PU to get the volume levels where you want. Your tech can do that.
