Anybody else heard of these?

I know that the SDUGF (selectively) hates copies and knockoffs, and will probably make this thread about the ethics of copying designs. But first we will stop by "Whereisitmadeville."

I do not necessarily endorse or not endorse what's going on here. Just presenting it.

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

Well, they look good.

Whether they play well or not is another story though.

If they play well, I don't really care where they're from.

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

For the price it doesn't look too bad.

As to what I don't like about it:
- Not a fan of the hardware
- Would have preferred the archtop style tailpiece
- Veneer Top
- Plastic Nut
- The weight

Given the price you kind of expect all those things though, except the weight ... 9 lbs?

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

What is it supposed to be a copy of? Looks kind of Fender/Gibson ES/Rickenbacker all thrown into one to me.

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

its a copy of a paul languedoc guitar. he got famous for making guitars for trey from phish. they are beautifully crafted extremely expensive guitars.

that looks like a cheap knock off.

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

The people that buy this will never, ever have the money for a Languedoc.

Does it make it okay? Not the point. Just pointing it out.

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

Looks alright, but not my kind of flavor...

Is it an illusion or does the tail, bridge, and pups all look like they're kinda crammed together?

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

Also looks kinda like a Fender Starcaster.

Overall, I quite like it, but would prefer 22 frets and a 3+3 headstock.

Re: Phred Instruments (Langue-knock)

Here's how I see it:

- Cheap, meh-quality Asian verson of a top quality hand made piece of gear: no worries

- Cheap, EXACT copy of an out-of-production piece of gear: again, no worries

- Cheap, EXACT copy of a current production piece of gear: super lame

The Wolph is his cadillac model like garcia's v2 wolf and the liger dog ear'd is garcia's famous body design from two diff luthiers.

*nods* For my money, I'd rather get a Mooncaster body from Warmoth, leave the stop tailpiece off and go with an archtop tailpiece, and put whatever neck I want on it.
