Picked up a few set neck guitars recently.

King Midas to Cheap Guitars
and figured out how to make stands from boxes. :biglaugh:

Okay, the Stratacoustic and bass guitar aren't set neck guitars, but the rest are. They were all in the $100-$200 range. There were lots of Duncans and EMGs and Grover tuners that were removed and sold off, so I've got very little into each one.

So the next time someone tells you to have one nice guitar rather than a bunch of cheap ones... yeah. Whatever.

Re: Picked up a few set neck guitars recently.

Dude that's awesome! What do you plan to do with them? At the rate it takes me to complete a guitar project that would be more than I could do in one life. lol

They look like homeless puppies

So what's your impression of the stratocoustic

Mag swap?

Re: Picked up a few set neck guitars recently.

Wow. How did you come across those kind of deals?

Online deals, and I've got a guy at the local GC that transfers stuff in for me. I get deals, he gets commission. I posted a thread about the SZ320 I got for I think $75 (shipped) that was missing parts, and there was an ARC100 in here that had EMGs and Sperzels that I got for $125. After selling the EMGs and Sperzels that one was free and I've got a few bucks left over. :D

Put them together, keep the ones I like, sell the others off at a profit. From what I paid vs what I can sell them for, I can see at least 50% profit on each one. You'd never see that on expensive guitars.

Plays decently enough. I'll probably swap the neck for a maple Squier neck, just because I can. (And once I sell the Fender neck, I'd have less than $100 into it.)

Yeah, I didn't bother taking a picture of the plastic bins I have full of the tuners and pickups that I'll be using. I need to order some more strings for sure. :firedevil

Re: Picked up a few set neck guitars recently.

Those Ibanez SZ models are really nice guitars. I wish I could've kept the 720 that I snagged cheap. It was a great player. Needed to pay for a transmission repair though.

Re: Picked up a few set neck guitars recently.

I used to have a Stratacoustic. What a POS. Like you said, it plays decently enough for an acoustic but the tone is absolute crap.

From what I've read, the acoustic tone leaves much to be desired, but the tone through the Fishman preamp is actually pretty good. If I were to *ever* play an acoustic and record with it, I'm not mic'ing up a good one for the 10 second (max) intro I'd use it for. :D

Re: Picked up a few set neck guitars recently.

All you need now is some bubble wrap, and they are ready for shipping in case you sell any.

I wouldn't call them worthless...they had an interesting and unique tone for sure. I nearly got one because I thought it would add a unique flavor for some tunes I was working on. Ultimately didn't get it and went another direction on the tunes but still wouldn't consider them absolute junk...

This I absolutely agree with. Back in 2006 I did record a few rhythm tracks using one. If I ever needed an acoustic guitar for a live show (plugged in) I would consider a Stratacoustic as well. It just doesn't cut it unplugged though.

I do have a red SZR720 that I'll be selling as I don't care for the vine inlay. (It's not in the picture.) I have two gray SZ720s in there. (Second one in the first column/row, and last one in the second.)

Any SZ520's?

First one in the lower left hand corner. Red quilt. I'd kill for a purple one. (Also still kinda looking for a blue one. :D )

I've always liked the Ibanez SZs–wanted to like the way they play but I've never been able to bond with their necks.

For me the neck is great. I didn't like how deep the saddles were on the Gibraltar bridge, then I discovered that a wraparound bridge fits. Picked up the Wilkinson adjustable one and it's perfect for palm muting.

That's awesome! I've heard a lot of guys didn't care for the bridge–cool you found a way around that! The bridge wasn't what threw me off, just the feel of the necks. But thats why there are many brands out there that offer didn't specs and sizes and radii. lol

If I was in the market for another guitar I'd consider it.
