Picked up an old fixer-upper today!!

Man I hope Christian doesn't think I am copying him!!! I saw this and had to have it. It is supposed to work beautifully and 100% the way it should! It is just ugly. I am thinking of possibly making a new box for it or at the very least retolex it and put a handle on it. We'll see though. I am stoked. I haven't had a project since the Vibrolux.

Yah.

It's an Echoplex, tape-loop delay. There's a cassette inside (not a "regular" one) that's looped... no start or end point and the delay time changes as the tape speed and/or head location changes.

State of the art circa 1972.

It's not really that much like a cassette, but that will get the point across, and FWIW, the tape speed doesn't change...the record head moves which sets the delay time (20 to 650 ms), and yes, that one is solid state.

Yeah, it's not exactly like a cassette but I couldn't think of another way to easily explain it.

I know a guy who owns three tube Echoplexes & they have variable tape speed. Modded I guess? He had them all rebuilt/restored several years ago.

I've only really been exposed to his arsenal... For the most part the only other 'plexes I've come across have been run into ground.
