I'm sure your read the numerous threads I started, so I decided to narrow it all down in one thread with an open mind. I'm looking to swap the pickups in my backup guitar. The guitar is a vintage 82' usa made Epiphone SG Special that was made in a Gibson plant.
Now some recommended antiquittes (sp), but I want to modernize my sound. Check out my rig which is in the forum of a quote down below to get an idea of my sound. RIght now I have Dimarzio Breed / Evolution, not really feeling it. I do want a slightly different tone from what I have in my Les Paul which is Seymour DUncan Screamin Demon and Pearly Gates.
I play more modern rock.
What Duncan's would be a good choice? I want to shy away from the JB/59 combo as I had them in a few guitars I previously own. I'm looking for something new.
I'm curious about the A2Ps. I love that neck pickup in a LP guitar I had. I don't know if they work in SGs though. I read mix reviews.
What I NEED:
Neck - needs to be able to clean up well. I have a single channel amp and need to go from crunch to clean by turning down the volume. The neck needs to be able to having singing sustain for leads and a chunk for rythm playing. I haven't really used the neck pup much in any of my guitars bc the pickup was lacking.
Bridge - needs punch. I use the bridge for leads as well as my all out distortion rhythms. It has to give me that chunka chunka crunch palm mute feel.
