Pickup - Charvel Model 2

Hi Guys,

My Charvel is a single humbucker guitar. I'd like to get something that sounds tight with warm, singing highs. I play mostly instrumental shred metal with a lot of gain. I love the sound of neck humbuckers for lead playing and want to come as close as possible. The easiest thing to do would be to get a guitar that has a neck humbucker I suppose LOL. I really like this one though and want to try to find a good pickup. Is there anything you can recommend that would work for me? Thanks in advance.

Does it have a tone knob? You can roll it off to about halfway and it'll be similar to a neck pickup.

That's a pretty generalized statement. And while it CAN be true, it rarely is.

Possibly an Alt 8, with a p/p for series/parallel.

That's a pretty generalized statement. And while it CAN be true, it rarely is.

It's worked for me, would have been worth a shot. Without a tone knob though it's a moot point.

Maybe a Custom Custom or '78 depending on how much output you're looking for. A 250K pot will reduce brightness some, and you may want to try a push / pull to connect a cap / resistor to ground as a fixed tone rolloff (like the old PRS sweet switch).

Custom Custom:

Be sure to replace with bass side pole screws with either short screws, carefully clip the ones in there, or use hex screws (which are short) from say a demon or a full shred.

A2P is an obvious great choice, but lower output.

Or……

Get a Duncan Custom and a concentric Volume tone pot!

*Fixed

Tone knobs bleed Treble frequencies, which give neck pickups that amazing clarity and fluidity.

You can get DIFFERENT tones by using a Tone pot (often, a muddy mess), but it'll never sound like a dedicated neck pickup especially wide-open.

For eye-ball popping, genitalia moistening, shredding, my vote goes to the JB, DMZ Tone Zone, and DMT Baker Act.

Pick your poison.

SH6 Distortion with a 250K pot .
It will be tight with singing highs if that's what you want for shred metal .
