Pickup choice in a Yamaha Pacifica 112M

The guitar I have is a Yamaha Pacifica 112M that has an alder body, maple neck, and maple fretboard. Im already thinking a custom 8 is the way to go on the bridge pickup unless someone else has any good recommendations. Also, Im thinking about the Vintage Hot Stack Plus Strat STK-S7 for the middle and neck... Im trying to get a guitar that plays near modern metal tones, but also killer clean tones that can also do nice distorted leads on the neck pickup and possibly vintage sounding as well. Any recommendations as on what I should go with? I appreciate all your guys help.

i would say the screamin demon or the pearly gates would be great for that guitar. i use them in my strats and love em in the mix and leads

What are you playing on it, and into what amp?

Im doing everything from blues, vintage rock, modern rock, modern metal, with alot of cleans as well as some slightly overdriven sounds. Im playing through a brand new mesa dual rectifier multiwatt amp.

This may sound odd....Screaming Demon.

No need for a distortion style with that amp, and you are playing all over. Maybe a Pegasus? I have never played one, but I am intrigued. A Custom/59 also.

And....Wire it for Series/Split/Parallel with a mini switch or something. Especially if you get something hot-ish like the C8

Would the Vintage Hot Stack Plus Strat STK-S7 in the middle and neck match up to the Custom 8 in the bridge gain and volume wise?

Generally it should be OK. I wouldn't go any hotter than that, though.

Thank you, and Im pretty certain that the STK-S7 is the right choice for the neck in this guitar, but is there a better choice or something that would pair up better in the middle position?

This depends on what you want out of the middle position. Some people like a more vintage-output pickup to 'clean up' when they use the middle position alone. Some want a more balanced sound across all 3 pickups. For a more vintage sound, I use the STK-S4.

I agree for the most part with everything said so far. My set would be S7n, S4m, and Screamin Demon bridge. The HB won't overpower the singles and the 2 and 4 positions should be nice and quacky (or bell-like/chimey if you prefer).

Would the custom 8 overpower those single coils?

Yes, the Custom is a strong wind and A8s are loud magnets. Whether or not overpowering is good is your decision. I actually prefer a boost in the bridge position.

What choice of single coils would go good with the custom 8 then? I just want single coils that sound good clean and also do good with overdrive and a boost.

Re: Pickup choice in a Yamaha Pacifica 112M

The set I mentioned but with an A8 Custom should work fine. The difference in output between the positions won't be anything so large as to mess up the guitar. Picture the difference between a pickup split vs not split, that's at most the volume difference you'd be dealing with. That also means that you should have a good tone with the middle and bridge split together.
