pickup choice messed up?

Ok, I ended up ordering the middle and custom bridge Antiquity II surf pups and after I read a lot of posts here, I'm starting to think I might have messed up. I really wanted a warm, yet edgy and sharp, sound out of my guitar. But not humbucker like at all. Like I've said in another post, I want to get to The Edge black Strat tone... the tone of Where the Streets Have no Name, I Still Haven't Found, ... The Joshua Tree Era. And I'm starting to think that these pickups might not have the sweet and warm tone of his guitar. Don't get me wrong, his sound is very sharp and has that classic Strat brightness. I still don't fully regret my choice yet, cause I didn't receive the pickups just yet. So I've never really tried them out. Do you think I made a bad choice? If so, I can still return them.. Music Store has a 30 Day Money Back warranty, I guess I could reorder some other more adequate pups. What do you think?

It's important to say that I almost only use the middle/bridge position. For those who are not familiarized, this is really the sound I'm after:

I'm counting on the help of the Strat experts from this forum to tell me if you think this tone can be nailed (or almost) by the surfers I bought. Or if there is a better choice. What is your opinion?

Thanks

Hey man why are you complaining about something you haven't even tried yet? haha, at least give them a chance before indulging in the pickup return policy. Thats your safety net.

I'm not complaining, I'm just asking your opinion :P

i would try them before you waste any sleep on it. they are great pups and virtually define classic strat tone

I am ansious to try them out. I just became a little upset cause I'm changing my current pickups (David Barfuss) wich are very bright and thin and at high volumes they become really strident, especially in the middle/bridge wich is the position I use the most. And after ordering the surfers I read around here that they are also very bright and harsh, so you can imagine why I became upset. I hope they can be bright but not thin, and can achieve really great harmonics and very sweet chimes. That's all I want really. The sound that's in the soundclip I uploaded a few posts above is the definition of the sound I'm looking for hehe :fingersx:

Thanks

Re: pickup choice messed up?

i have a set of surfers with the custom bridge in a strat and i dont think they are anything even close to harsh. bright yes, shrill no, chimey yes, harsh no. i dont find them all that thin either. they have a classic alnico V strat tone. i prefer a fatter middier less chimey alnico II tone in the bridge but the surfer custom bridge is a great pup. have a drink and relax you have some great pups on the way
