pickup cluelessness

I really like the way my strat sounds unplugged.
I'm going to put a pickup in the neck position with the hope that i can get a nice, clear, sparkling clean sound.I like the way single coils sound in the neck, and i'm likely going to get a hum-cancelling model.
I have an Invader in the bridge, and think it would be nice if my new front pickup added some clarity when i combine the two.
I'm concerned because i don't want a big volume dropoff when i go to the neck pickup alone.
I don't know anything about how DC resistances or resonant peaks affect tone and whatnot.

Re: pickup cluelessness

maybe you might wanna try put the JB in the bridge? i'm pretty sure that it will be very clear when you combine the two pickups... if not maybe try the duncan distortion... both will sound pretty good when combined with another pickup...

Re: pickup cluelessness

For clarity any duncan single will help the neck position. Some like the A2 mag pups some A5. I'm afraid that regardless of which single coil you have you are going to have some volume dropoff. For something hot you could get a strat hot, but in the neck it might sound muddy. I'd go for ssl 1 or the aps. I've got a set of APS and they sound nice.

Re: pickup cluelessness

thanks guys. Actually i was playing my friend's strat with the front and neck pickups engaged and that seemed to be the sound I'm going for, so now i'm thinking 2 singles instead of just the one.
From what I understand, David Gilmour from pink floyd uses the neck and front for his solos, and i really like that sound.
With both engaged will they be hum-cancelling?
Should one of them be reverse polarity?
Should i just figure out what the heck i want in my guitar?
