Pickup combo for Stoner/Doom

Re: Pickup combo for Stoner/Doom

Well that setting/tone I described with my 6505 is far from "tight".
I really don't think there is a stoner rock reference manual that would list the correct gear.
I do believe stoner rock has a heavy groove that demands a thick a$$ end, and that tone would be compromised by what a lot guitarists would consider a worthy tone for metal or thrash.
With that said, I think there are a lot of amp/speaker/pickup combos that go against conventional "doom" wisdom; would be perfectly awesome for doom.
Now that is good to know.
Was the tone (((loose))) enough ?

I read many-a-post that the 5150/6505's are just too tight sounding to make a GOOD Stoner/Doom amp.

Any truth in that ?

Re: Pickup combo for Stoner/Doom

I feel that its a genre that is easy to dial in. Too many (in a good way) options

Nuff said. ****in crank that ****, lose some tone knob, n go balls out.

Crack many beers and spark many joints

This is the single greatest description of how to attain tone I've ever experienced.

You sir...get it.

Antioch? U ever play out in the bay?

Definitely. My band just played at the Metro in Oakland opening for Orange Goblin on Wednesday.

Since it's relevant to the thread, I'll even post a video from the show. In this clip I'm using a custom neck thru strat loaded with a PG/PG+ combo. Rhythm parts are just a Basic Audio Tri/Ram, the solo has a Timmy for a little extra volume/grit and a Diamond Memory Lane Jr for awesome delay'd solo action. Running into a 68 Bassman. Chunky balls tone.

Good heavens, this thread has been around for 4 years and no one thought to mention the SLUG?
