Pickup EQ vs amp

Hello guys,

I've got a jackson guitar with a screamin' demon on the bridge, a hot rails on the middle and...years ago I've posted here for help, because a friend bought me a trembucker 59' when I needed a neck humbucker.I couldn't return the pickup because he bought it on the USA and I live in another country. So many suggested to install the trembucker on the neck position anyway. I did it, I liked that for some years. Recently I bought a new all tube amplifier and the sound of that trembucker 59 has too much high for a neck position for my taste. It is even more evident on clean sounds. The hot rails in the middle position gives muh more dark, warm low sounds then the 59', and has much more volume (expected due to the higher output).

I am thinking in changing the trem 59' for an Invader. I am searching for a more low, dark sounding neck pickup (no too much though) to play some fat clean sounds and with a little more gain and volume than the 59' when distorted. The invader for the neck position has less output than the trembucker 59', so I am concerned about the volume and gain. I looked through the seymour duncan site and found 3 pickups with a more low oriented sound

P-Rails
Benedetto B6
Invader

The first two I couldn't find good distorted sound demos. Found mostly clean jazzy sounds (wich I like too), wich I believe is expected since they are more jazz oriented.

I think the trembucker 59' has a good sound even in the neck position, but using this new amp specially, the pickup produces a kind of sound that isn't what I am looking for.

What do you recommend?

Thank you.

PS: Sorry for my bad english...it is not my first language.

Re: Pickup EQ vs amp

I've tried the Invader neck and it's definitely warm and bassy. It has some cut to it too. It has more output than the 59 because of it's 3 thick ceramic magnets. The Prails seems to have a thick sound as well. The Benedetto is probably the brightest of those 3.

Re: Pickup EQ vs amp

Put Screamin' Demon in the neck and get Invader/Alt8/Distortion/JB for the bridge.

Re: Pickup EQ vs amp

I think an Invader neck would work well here.
How does the Hot Rail middle work with the Demon? Are there any balance problems?

Not a problem they are really balanced specially on this amp which has a circuit inspired on the soldano SLO. On the blackstar HT 5 is ok.

I was reading and researching yesterday and I think I have a case of a break in coil or connection. Because sometime ago I started to think the tremb 59' that is on the neck weak, and I noticed that it's the only ine that loses almost all volume when I turn the tone pot to 0. The time is almost the same I got the new amp I talked about on the OP. Before this I liked the tremb 59 on the neck.

Thx for the suggestion but I want to avoid putting a trembucker on the neck again if I am to change the neck pickup. If pickups weren't so expensive where I live I would experiment a little with different models, specially a more jazzy one that I am not sure about how it would sound under distortion.
