Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Hello!
I thight you might be tired of the question "what pickup should I buy?" But i am sorry, I have no experience of pickups and i gotta ask you this question anyway. I'm sorry ;).
I recently got an NJ series Bc Rich Mockingbird that i think sound great acoustic but just gets to muddy while on gain, and just doesn't do the tone for me. It is indeed the infamous Bc Rich BSDM bucker.
The body is made of some kind of mahogny (Agathis, Nato? I don't know.) (Which some say is closer to alder tone-wise) It's got maple top and an ebony fretboard. I also believe that the neck is maple.
I am thinking of replacing both bridge and neck pup and i want a more defined sound, less mud, still fatter (especially in neck pos where i might be considering the AIIP) I want lots of screaming overtones and heavy overall sound. I can't be too ear-piercing/harsch/shrill. I'm thinking to get more of a trash sound out of the bridge bucker and more warm classic rock trough the neck, preferable with pups that also matches well to make a good middle pos etc.
I realise that it might be quite hard to fit all these preferences in and that everyone has different tastes according of "what is too what". But please help a newbie that want to make his first electric scream ;)
Thanks in advance// Tichy

Okay, and how does it sound, have you got any clips? Compares to which pickup etc? Forgot to mention that i have a locking trem and low gain amp, so both more sustain and output would be appreciated. Thanks for a fast answer :)

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

There are clips on the Duncan site, but you'll need to listen to a bunch for comparison purposes. The SH-6b will still sound huge with a locking trem, will push the amp hard, and the neck will sound as thick as anything, but you can still riff on it without mud-city.

Bottom line, they rule.

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Tho I've never tried the neck version I love the bridge DD and agree with JB From Hell that it's what you're looking for!

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Okay, now I am seriously considering this, but what about the PATBs, the Full shred, the AIIP, the LiveWires, Gibson Dirty Fingers, EMG? It's a ****in jungle of pickups :S. Everyone says different bout what pickup to get, so some descriptions would be great :) Thanks by the way :)

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Actives are great in those guitars in my experience. Try EMG's, Livewires, Blackouts etc.

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Dimarzios and BC Rich are a classic combo! (I only inject this comment into the convo for the lack of love Dimarzio is getting. :D )

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

One word of caution... having owned an NJ Classic Mockingbird, pickup selection can be tedious. Whatever you go with, you want to avoid pickups that are too scooped, but you also want to make sure you get something with a big and tight low end. High output pickups with too strong of a top end get very harsh on the highs with all those bright woods.

After trying a Demon, a CC, and a JB, I ended up with a 489T in the bridge of mine. I had tried the Demon in the neck, too, and ended up with a 490R in that spot. I never got around to trying any others. They weren't the greatest, but were the best of the bunch I tried.

Just about anything you put in there will be an improvement over the BSDMs. Those things don't even make good paperweights.

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Okay, choices I am now considering is:
Option No.1
Bridge: Full Shred
Neck: AIIP

Option No.2
Bridge: TB-6 Distortion
Neck: TB-6 Distortion

Option No.3
Bridge: Metal Livewire
Neck: Classic Livewire

Option No.4
Bridge: Classic Livewire
Neck: Classic Livewire

Option No.5
Bridge: Emg 81/85
Neck: Emg 85/60

Option No.6
Bridge: PATB 1/2
Neck: 1

And what about gibson dirty fingers?

There is no priority according to the order in this like suggestion list I've made up for me. I have never tested these IRl and i can't afford multiple swaps, so I would be very happy if anyone please could help me and very-very happy if anyone would share there info on these pups if they have tried em, it would be even better if it was in a similair guitar or even the very same model. thanks in advance :D

'59 + Distortion

'59 + Distortion

Hmm, you want to be able to play classic rock also, but are looking at active sets...? Perhaps a '59 neck and a Distortion trembucker bridge would be more appropriate?

A '59 in the neck would be thick, clear, and versatile for classic rock and heavy metal. And the Distortion is very popular for heavy thrash and death metal.

Max Cavalera used a Distortion in his Warlock during his Sepultura days. And how many guys with active pickups sound as heavy as Max Cavalera did? Even the Slayer guys sound sterile and thin in comparison.

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

that guitar has a nato body. almost sure. and oh you dont need trembuckers for the neck, thats just for the bridge position. from your options i'd go with option 1 or 2

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

BBQ, what do you mean with "WERD", "WORD" or "WEIRD" ? It's a big difference :)
How are the PATBs, and how is the FS, the AIIP and the 59 contra Distortion neck? Or are everyone agreed that i should have a distortion set?
Thanks :)

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

The question is, what's best for what you want to play? What do you want your guitar to sound like? If you read the descriptions on the SD site and the forums, most of the pickups sound like they have some very good qualities. But will they give you the sounds that you want?

I think most people agree about the Distortion. So if you want pure thrash metal, go with the Distortions set. But if you want a greater range of tones for other types of music, consider a Distortion in the bridge and lower output pickup in the neck.

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Okay, I want something of a trash sound in bridge and a fatter more classic rock tone in the neck, but someone said the distortion would do that aswell?

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

Well, I've read some neat things about the PATB here, so the question is if i should go distortion set, PATB set, FS & AIIP or DD/PAtB & AIIP? How is the distortion contra the PATB-2/1 and vice versa, And SH-6n contra vintage output 59/AIIP in neck? Can I get a nice warm fat softer blues/classic rock/hard rock/heavy metal from a SH-6n in neck? And would the bridge be what I am looking for for heavy metal/trash metal? Thanks once again in advance!

Re: Pickup for Bc rich Mockingbird NJ ?

my experience with the DD bridge has been this: you can always roll the volume and tone knobs back and change the sound VERY MUCH!! the DD bridge will do bright, fast, slow, burn, scream, mellow, fat and thin. its very versatille.
