hey, i am looking to get an ibanez RG7321, this has a Basswood body.

what 7 string pickup combo would be suited to this guitar??

Re: pickup for rg7321

i have an ibanez flying V with a JB in the bridge and one with a dimebucker. i prefer the tone of the JB but would like something a bit diffrent for this 7 string. i play mostly metal but i want something that will do for less heavy stuff aswell and some clean stuff.

Re: pickup for rg7321

hey dcmally!!!!!!

im LPshredder from the metallica boards, the one that told you to get the rg :)

for what you're asking for, a JB would sound nice. since it's hot enough to do metal, and has a good clean tone.
i'd also recommend an sh-5 custom for the bridge. great clarity and not so bad of a clean tone.

Re: pickup for rg7321

I've got a Custom/Jazz set in my RG1527 and it can handle a wide variety of tones, from metal to blues, and just about anything in between.

Re: pickup for rg7321

im surprised you didn't say the DD for the guitar travis!!

im in total shock :D

actually, a DD would be good. you'll need clarity when the guitar is that low tuned

Re: pickup for rg7321

Actually, in hindsight I wish I would have gotten the Distoriton. If I ever get around to selling the Custom-7, then I'll throw a Distoriton-7 in there.

Re: pickup for rg7321

he lp\m/(00)\m/ i have found an epi les paul 7 string on ebay for £250. im still going for the RG tho, unless something elce comes up, it always the way because their is soo much gear i need to buy. amps, an accoustic, recording gear (if you hear one of my recordings i have posted in the met boards "Message Board Members: Recordings of yourselves?" you will really understand the utter ****yness.

i have a ducnan distortion on my shelf, i never liked it but i had it in a korina explorer, is this the wrong type for this pickup because it always sounded too muddy. what sort of a sound would an invader give in a basswood body?? (i only ask because it looks really cool does an invader and its different to what i already have).

the JB seems to suit evrything, i really love the JB which is why i have had one on order for my RG550EX (JB still not arrived from USA tho). hmm i have just realised if i get an ibanez 7321 i will have 4 ibanez guitars. well i dont go out looking for an ibanez, just end up with them.

I have a rg7621, I went with a jb in the bridge/59 in the neck combo. I havent looked back since. Great crunch tones, nice cleans...a real versatile setup. One thing I will warn you about, you may or may not have to rout out a little bit of wood in the pup cavity so that they get in low enough, depending on the pup's that came stock on it. I know on mine I had to knock out like 1/8 of an inch, as mine came with the IBZ pups and those things are flat as hell. But trust me bro....the tone you get afterwords is worth it.

Don't bother routing out the guitar, just clip the ends of the pole pieces like I did. The Duncan rep said that it wouldn't change the tone of the pickup, just make them a little hotter due to a more focused magnetic pull in the one direction. That way, I didn't have to mess with the guitar, and he said they would still honor the 21 day exchange policy. Check with your rep first, though.
