Pickup GAS 2025

I'm going to add Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell to my pickup gas list. I have a spare HH strat guard, so the temptation to load up another guard exists.

In case anyone was wondering, wiring up your strat bodies and guards with quick connects for easy swapping of loaded pickguards WILL increase pickup GAS.

Rebel Yell is one of my favorite bridge pickups. I have a 6 and a 7 string version, both in darker guitars. Might be a little bright in a strat, but I guess that's what lower pot values are for.

I have a mahogany body strat that I thought would be a great candidate if I didn't love the pickups in the guitar currently.

I hadn't thought of a 7-string RY set before. I'll have to keep the RY in mind if I ever get tired of the stock Fishman Fluence.

I couldn't get along with the Fluence Moderns. They came stock in 3 of my guitars and they never felt right. Converting from their 7 string soapbars to passive humbuckers is a hassle though. I drilled and chiseled the routs on one of my soapbar guitars to take standard passive hums in rings. On the other one, I didn't want to alter the body, so I've wound up swapping different coils and magnets into a Duncan "active mount" housing and baseplate. The standard options for that size are so limited.

Loving the Aldrich. Kinda want to try the SSH+. But I'm not sure because I'm also loving the 498T, LOL, just not as much as the Aldrich.

Love the concept behind this thread. For me it's the bill lawrence l48tl, which I ordered during their christmas sale and arrived in the mail late last year, I just haven't installed it yet. Pairing it up with a seth lover neck in my old trusty tele deluxe. Replacing the Jerry Donahue which is one of my all time favorites. Just been listening to a lot of danny gatton and figured the lawrence would be a relatively inexpensive way to try out a blade pickup in a tele.

The only other one I want to try is a PGb / Custom in my les paul. I've got a 59/custom in there now, so just need to swap out the '59 coil with the old PGb I have laying around, and drop in a ceramic magnet, or unoriented A5.

Most likely, my next set will be from the Custom Shop...

Antiquites (non aged), 4 conductor, neck pickup rw/rp, and black powder-coated covers with black screws.

Fortunately mine are direct mount tabbed humbuckers so I'll have more options if that day comes. I'm getting along with them OK... certainly well enough to not feel too tempted by a 7-string RY set, not to mention completely overhauling the electronics for passives.

CAn't believe I'm saying this, but meh.

I'm out of Pickup GAS. Maybe a few I *might* like to try, but no need. I'd need more guitars....

The only thing I NEED is a DiMArzio model or area PJ set for a bass.

In Duncans, I might like to try...
Pegasus Sentient set - Would be Cool in a Dean Schenker Yin/Yang in Zebra black/white, or Red/Black in a red LP Modern Lite
Maybe Sentient Nazgul - but I don't general play anything that needs those. Same Red LP for those.
Black Winters...maybe, but I don't know that they are different enough from Distortions for me to care
Whole Lotta's with Chrome Covers - but I need to get an ESP 256 Viper 61 style for that.

And since not really getting guitars...don't need pups.

Maybe some 59's for my The Paul? Maybe a post about that.

The Black Winter bridge has less sizzle than the Distortion and more mids, it's JB's uglier cousin. Haven't played the Distortion neck yet
