Pickup HELP!

Hey everyone,

new here.

I am having a major problem.

I have a SCHECTER C-1+, I recently replaced the stock pickups with Seymour Duncans.
I put a Sh-2(jazz) in the neck and a Sh-4 JB in the bridge.
( I had the guitar tech do the coil tap and he also put covers on the pickups)

I am getting a really bad squealing feedback(this isn't your regular feedback) sound from my
JB pickup when I am using the lead channel of my Marshall TSL60.
(I like a hard mid driven crunchy full distortion sound.
So I have most of my Eq settings a little bit past 12:00
My master volume is a little bit under 12:00, my lead and crunch channel volumes are
almost all the way up for that hard driven sound. And I have the gains below 12:00)
It even makes the crazy feedback when I am muting the strings.
I tried standing far away from the amp as well.
The only way I don't get the ear piercing squealing feedback is when I have my master volume way low.
I didn't have any problems cranking the lead volume with my old pickups.

Now, is this just my settings?
or is it something wrong with the wiring.
Or is it something else!?

I really don't know whats causing the crazy feedback.
Also, I'm not really getting any "Regular" feedback.

Any help would be greatly appreiciated!!

Re: Pickup HELP!

Did he re-pot when he put the covers on the pickups? That's about the only thing I can think of.

Re: Pickup HELP!

As soon as I read "he also put covers on the pickups" I though "I wonder if this is gonna be about a feedback problem."

Re: Pickup HELP!

Welcome to the forum.

And my thoughts are the same as Jolly and TGWIF. SD's are wax potted from the factory. If you buy covered pickups, they're potted, then the covers are put on, then they're potted again. If your tech didn't pot them again, it could be the cause.

Re: Pickup HELP!

Thanks guys!
You are a big help. I think that is what the problem is.
I am seriously doubting he potted them.
I will have to talk to him about that!
Thanks again.

One more question though.
Do you think potting them affects the sound of the pickup at all?

It is my opinion that a non wax potted bucker will have a slightly different tone than one that is potted...but taking 2 pickups that are already potteed, then ading covers and potting them again should have little to noeffect on the tone. In truth at that point the covers themselves will have more effect that the waxpotting.

Go back to that guy, and see of he potted them...he should have, and if he didn't I would bet my next paycheck that if you get the potted the feedback will go away!

Good luck bro!
