Pickup ID - impedance?

hey guys, does 7.26k sound right for a jazz neck? i know about the tolerance thing, but this pickup is double cream with no solder marks - its pretty damned old!

cheers guys,

tom

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

Jazz neck is officially 7.72k. 7.26 is kind of light, more in line with a Seth Lover or Pearly Gates neck.

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

if its an old double cream, it might be a jazz. long legs or short?

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

i havnt heard the expression before - here's some photos..

the guy who invented fire said it was a really old jazz neck, before they were actually referred to as such.. is he right? it sounds pretty darned good :)

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

that was the other thing - that wire wound around the ends of the polepeices looks like an attempt at making the pickup 4-conductor rather than two.. the metal braided wire feels like an important clue, does it give anything away?

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

if that sticker is right, its a jazz model neck.

the legs are the things that the height adjustment screws go into

i wonder about that wire weaving as well. can you post a better pick of the bottom and the wires both where the braid comes out the bottom and the other end of the weird wire?

if i had to guess, it looks like one end is grounded to the baseplate which makes me think maybe its for shielding?

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

good point, ill get more photos tonight.. but in the top photo, the two wires are soldered together and taped off.. much like the red and white wires in a modern duncan :)

ill get those photos, and get some with the baseplate off if i can.. bit of a mystery, this one :)

can you tell who wound it from the sticker with such an old duncan?

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

After reading everything, and more imprtantly looking at the pics:

It´s a damn old Jazz Neck that somebody modded for 4 wire, the extra 2 wires are what´s coming out teh sise and coild so wierdly around the poles ;)

No real clue as to who wound it back then, because the employee initiaol is missing (or rather wasn´t part of teh sticker yet)... It may be SWD himself, It may be MJ, it may be someone else ;)

Re: Pickup ID - impedance?

hehe sweet, cheers man :D

i thought as much with the wires, why have two coming out if you were just grounding it?

i got this off ebay as 'possibly a duncan, might be gibson, i dunno. no reserve.'... im glad i pulled the trigger now :D
