Pickup installation assisstance needed...should I route or use pickup rings?

I recently bought a set of Fishman Fluence Modern 7's for a Jackson 7 string project I'm working on. The stock pickups in the guitar where active mount and the fishman's appear to be regular passive mount size, so long story short, they don't fit properly. So my question is what do you guys recommend, should I route the few millimeters needed for the pickup to fit properly or simply getting pickup rings would be easier? image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

A ring would allow very limited adjustability, since the pickup still can't go below the route.

My suggestion is to cut the pickup "ears" off, and superglue/epoxy it to a piece of material that you can drill mounting holes in, not messing with routes whatsoever. I'd never drill or route a guitar to fit a set of pickups, especially without a guard... But that's just me.

Cutting the ears off? wah da! Its just a project so i don't think routing would be a big issue.

I wonder if Fishman themselves can change it to an active-mount cover? Maybe try to ask them...

Fishman sells the pickups in both sizes. But if getting the right size is not an option for you, then you could route a little for the ears, direct mount them, and put a ring on it whenever you want in the future.

WHAT? Are you kidding? Cut off the ears with the mounting hole so you can superglue some material with mounting holes.

(Careful) Routing is the answer.

Thanks everybody, I ended up routing a little bit for the ears to fit and now it fits just fine. :cool2:
