Pickup Preamp(passives pickups' tone presereved in an active preamp)

Hi, I'm new here. I got this account just to ask about this, but plan on keeping this.

I am aware of the Blackouts Preamp, but want something that doesn't impart any specific tone of an existing active, but rather just recombines current passives as actives.

I'm considering a Pegasus & Sentient set for this as well as getting custom actives for a different project. Essentially I would like an active preamp that just keeps the passives tone, but enables active controls and other accessories. I would like to add active volume and tone pots as well as allow other accessories later, s quick connect is preffered.

I don't industry sodering and I've heard of Duncan Duality pickups and Emg Retroactives. I plan on getting those.

Just wondering how this would work and which resistors it would take and capacitors.

I've heard through the Official videos that the Blackouts Preamp imparts Like a 70/30 Blackouts tone. I would accept 50/50 Blackouts to passive ratio or even 40/60. I just would prefer more noticeably passive tone.

If I actually listed all the pickups I want to buy for intended use or even for preamping this list would be way to long. I don't mind sodering just would like to disconnect the preamp from battery cable(s) and control cables quickly the rest doesn't matter. I would looking the connecter at a local electronics store I know if I could.

Thank you for your time and I just want to reduce active existing tone and make passives sound like an active version of them selves or at least as close as currently possible.

I would buy a 20db gain pot, but wish to wire tone and volume at the beginning of the signal so I can just add an overdrive toggle at the end.

Thank you. I'll look into it. This is very much appreciated.

Yep, what Artie said...you want a clean boost.

Depending on your needs, whether you want to boost just a single guitar with an onboard circuit or be able to boost all of your guitars without having to install separate circuits in each of them, either the SFX-01 pedal or that "Firestorm" circuit he linked to would get you headed in the right direction.

Yup, I'm considering this option very much just would like to also add active tone pots. I have a few 25k potentiometers from my local electronics store. I've purchased capacitors and resistors there.

I actually meant I don't mind sodering.

Also would it be possible to build something
Iike a preamp used on active pickups, but built to handle contemporary action es without over writing the one so I can use 2 volume 2 tone, plus active accessories and toggle(overdrive toggle) wiring.

What/where is your local electronics store? (your location is not listed) What sort of things do they have there? There's a chance that they have components you can build from, and plenty of DIY circuits around the internet.

It's a place called Net Electronics, but they sell lots of potentiometers, capacitors, switch craft stereo out put Jacks. Anything for building g stereo devices or computer repair they have. The even have smaller capacitors in back and will bring them out if you ask. It's in a suburban south east LA County city. They have tomes of Pc board too.

Regarding potentiometers. They sell both 3/4 inch and 16 mm diameter backs. Usually in 25k and 250k. I try to post a pick. I got in 16mm.

Considering this very much as well. I have a few 25k potentiometers I could try with it as well. This looks just as promising. Just have to figure out a way to wire tone. I don't mind guess work or trial and error.

email Jack Orman at the web site. He will get back to you with help regarding getting a tone circuit wired into the chain.

This still applies to my project of connecting different passives to an active preamp. So can anyone help Identify the blue box under the retroactives preamp from. Emg. It will give me a little bit better insight on how to connect different Seymour Duncan passives as well as other brands.

Well the electronics shop I like will only be around anotger couple weeks to a month or 2 at most, but can I have help building a preamp that won't act as gain of the bat, I can wire that later. I plan on making my own preamp at this point, if anyone can help me with making a basic preamp that it's only purpose is to combine the coils within the preamp, differential I think, or will at least not impart to much tone. I would have purchased the Blackouts Preamp already, but it makes them sound like Blackout with 30% of the original pickups tone. I just hope to accomplish my own unique actives that react to playing like passives, similar to the Seymour Duncan Duality or Emg Retroactives theory(I'm leaning Duality, but retroactives are tempting), and sound like a true version of their active selves.

Re: Pickup Preamp(passives pickups' tone presereved in an active preamp)

If it comes down to it I'll just open up a regular active and do some trial and error test, but I'm hoping to minimize those.

Re: Pickup Preamp(passives pickups' tone presereved in an active preamp)

have you considered the Fishman Fluence?

if so, be certain you know what voice you want. as in, don't be someone that wants a 'classic' tone and buys the 'modern' set.

I'm more interested in modern passive tone, but with active controls and still react well, but thank you.

This actually makes total sense. I've considered them as well as artist sets. If I had to choose the regular runs I would choose modern. I'm disputing between buying 3 Fishman sets, a Duality Set, and retroactive super 77. The Fishman Fluence Moderns and some other Fishman sets appeal to me very much though. Just I would like to test some ideas to get a better concept of what I would like as an active later.
