I tried the Custom 5 in my RG with good results. I could get very close to Whitesnake tone as in Bad boys and Children of the night.

edit: Also DiMarzio Steve's Special. Really great in the RG. Heavy!

Sounds like the SLO is gonna give you all the low-mids you could possibly want, especially in a basswood 25.5" scale.


I've never found the low-mid freq to be basswood's strong point, no point in trying to reinforce it with a bloated pickup. They seem to respond best to a balanced, not absurdly-hot medium-ish output PAF type, or sub 14k 43-gauge modern wind. A5 for creamy leads, Ceramic 8 for louder volume and more strident tone.


The 59/Hybrid comes to mind or Bare Knuckle Nailbomb. Both are plenty hot yet still controlled and not booming in any frequency. A5 or Cermaic sound equally appropriate in either of them.
