Those artists use different amps, so the first issue would be the amp.
For pickups, I can tell you my favorites.

I've got a Jazz neck and A2P bridge and for me it works really well. The A2 is smooth and full and the Jazz has lots of definition and articulation. I did a PAF,custom series, and JB breakdown here's the link.

I've got a Jazz neck and A2P bridge and for me it works really well. The A2 is smooth and full and the Jazz has lots of definition and articulation. I did a PAF,custom series, and JB breakdown here's the link.

I've used APH II's, 59's, Seths, C5's, CC's, PG's and JB's. Mainly in my Dean Hardtail, which is sonicly similar to a Les Paul. Currently I have a C5/Seth in my Les Paul due to lack of other choices.
I can dial in some really sweet sounds with the Seth, but the C5 just has too much bite for my taste. Lack of mids...it's just too focused for my taste. I didn't like the PG in the neck of my Hardtail either, it didn't have enough clarity for me.
The set that I keep going back to again and again is the APH set. That's what's in my Hardtail now, and that's what's going in my Les Paul. I'll go with a stock APH neck bucker, and will build a slight variation of Slash's APH Custom Shop Bridge model at users day. I really feel that for my taste (classic rock, blues) that the APH is the best pickup for letting the true tone of the instrument ring through. I know my Hardtail will sound different than my Les Paul, even though the pups will be similar.
To my ears, A2 magnets are just more musical and friendly. YMMV.

well Slash used A2Pro's and Jimmy uses alnico 5 pickups...that said just about any good set of vintage style buckers will get you pretty close. my personal fave bucker set is the PG's...love them! Welcome to the forum!

Hard to go wrong with the Pearly Gates for a killer '58 Les Paul tone.
Hard to go wrong with a set of Alnico 2 Pros if you love Slash.
Or your own suggestion of the PGN and A2Pro seems fine to me.
Maybe consider a PGN or A2Pro neck and 59B too.
Seems to me that a A2Pro neck and 59B would be the perfect set to get Slash and Jimmy Page tones in one Les Paul.

I have an ESP LP copy from the 80's. Very similar to Gibson LP standards and built exactly the same way.
I have a burstbucker 3 in the bridge. Sounds excellent but I haven't gotten around to wax potting it yet so in high gain situations it can squeal (never live, just when I'm testing out my amp to really high gain stuff).
I'm probably putting in a duncan Alnico II though in the neck, have them in the neck position for all my guitars.
I think for the most part any PAF-style duncan or a burstbucker will suit you just fine, just depends on any slight nuances of your playing.
