Pickup selection suggestions

Im seeking suggestions for a set of Seymour Duncan pups for a 2017 Gibson SG. The guitar will be used mostly for playing covers, Blues and Classic Rock from artists such as Clapton, S Winwood, J Winter to Tom Petty to Cocker and Jackson Brown, Steely Dan, and of course Zep. And many more. I will need crisp clean tone & good bell tone and great sustain when adding overdrive.

Suggestions Please?

And the best pots to use? smooth taper? solid grounding? Pick up the least or no buzz/hum/EMF? The best cap? I have some .47uf and .22uf orange on hand.

Well, it depends on the pots you like. For me, I like very easy-turning even-taper pots, so I like the YJM Speed Pots, but CTS and regular Bournes are just fine. I use a 22 cap, and type doesn't matter to me (I I can't hear the difference). A good wiring and shielding job protects against any hum.

Re: Pickup selection suggestions

So far, not a bad suggestion in this thread.

I would second the Whole Lotta suggestion too

Re: Pickup selection suggestions

as far as cap type and or brand it maters for tolerances and resistence to temperature variation (so the farads won't shift if you play on a texas summer or alaska winter) anything else is just a metric ton of snake oil

I painted the cavities with metal paint. In the description the YJM's are made for Strats, would they be good in an SG?

Pots are pots, strat or sg is really beside the point... i think you're thinking about pickups???

Re: Pickup selection suggestions

Yeah, 500k pots are what you need for an SG- Strats typically use 250k. The kind isn't a big deal, but some people like stiffer ones, that are a little harder to turn, so they stay where you put them. Some people (like me) like the very easy turning ones.
