Hello all, I have a 1971 Cortez guitar, it is a Gibson L6S copy and the quality seems worthy enough to drop some new humbuckers in. Currently there is a neck and bridge humbucker. The neck p/u has 2 wires { black & red } and the bridge p/u has 3 wires { blue, black, orange }. I was hoping to find something that has the same number of wires coming from each for an easy replacement. Current p/ups measure 2 5/8" X 1 3/8 . Any suggestions?

Re: Pickup suggestions

The neck pikcup is an easy one to replace. Most vintage style SD pickups have two conductors. A three conductor pickup might have to go through the custom shop. I'd have to see the inside of the guitar to really understand the use of three wires.

Re: Pickup suggestions

The guitar has a 6 way selector switch just like the Gibson L6S if that helps. Trying to post pics but not having much luck.

Re: Pickup suggestions

That might. Right now, the best thing I could say is to find the four conductor pickups that you like the best, and then go to here and get a custom wiring diagram with the specs of the guitar.

I used them a couple times for different wirings on customer's guitars, and it's a great site. I got both of my wiring diagrams in like 3 days each, and they send it straight to your email.

I'm sorry I cant be of any more service, but until I see the guts of the guitar, I can't really do much.

Ahhh here we go. I also have a pot that needs to be replaced but not sure what to buy. It says "D500K" on it and there is also a cap on top that says "223K 50R". No idea what to do with this!

Re: Pickup suggestions

Also made a bone nut for it yesterday. About 2 hrs of shaping and sanding. Not sure what the old one was made from but it was in rough shape

Re: Pickup suggestions

The cap and pot are a tone knob. Without a cap it's a volume knob. The three conductor thing is for the coil tap. It's basically a 4 conductor pickup with the two coil ends spliced together for you. To put in a new pickup with the four conductor, solder the red and white wires of a Duncan pup onto the spot where the third conductor wire goes. The green and the bare wires on the Duncans are the ground, and the black is the hot.

Re: Pickup suggestions

I took them out, no name on the underside, I will remove the nickel covers and see if it says anything underneath
