Pickups for 1960 Les Paul

My friend has a Les Paul and wants the pickups switched for a better metal sound and he's wondering what would sound good for it...

he's looking at emg's right now but still isnt sure what kind, any ideas?

Custom/59 in nickel covered gets my vote for LP metal. If he goes between clean and highgain a lot with a channel switcher, the Custom 5/59 is the best, IMO.

Probably a Les Paul Classic that has "1960" on the Pickguard.

I think the stock 500T works fine for metal when it's adjusted correctly...takes some fiddling tho, as they are very sensitive to height...but perhaps his/your definition of "metal" and mine are two different things.

Duncan Distortion would be good for modern scoopy detuned "nu-metal" stuff.

EMG's seem to be popular as well.

are the stock ones supposed to have the nickel covers that look like mirrors on them? cause he got it 2nd hand and we arent sure what kind they are they look like the seymour duncan classic covers or seth lovers or something.

Look on the back of the pups and you will see. I support the Custom/59n. If you like riffing on the neck you could go with the Jazz, too.

I might say Custom/Jazz (jazz great for soloing) though, that 59n always seems boomy in LP necks.

Then you could get a Jazz neck and a 59n and make a hybrid....wouldn't that be the king of all neck pups?
