Pickups for a 6 year old fender mexican strat.

So, I bought this guitar used for 20 bucks. I don't really play guitar yet(Drum kit/Tabla) But I can tell these stock pick ups are horrible! Alot of really bad sounds come out when selecting pickups, and I get a horrible grinding tone if only one pickup is on.

I would like to buy some new pickups for it, and im wondering if a guitar tech can install them for me, put new strings on, and adjust everything for me for a reasonable price?

Now for the other question...
What pickups would you recomend? I don't really play a specific style, I listen to alot of Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Al Dimeola...even a little heavy stuff like Opeth and Cynic. I have listened to samples of different pick ups, and I am still clueless about what to look for.

Any help would be great.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself, definately get a tech to do the work for you.

As far as pickups go, I'd get a new pickguard routed for HSS configuration and use a pair of Classic Stack +'s in the neck and mid and a JB in the bridge.

That set will work for everything from country to metal and everything in between.
