The DD will probably get you closest out of any Duncan, but remember that most of his tone comes from his amp setup.

It cracks me up everytime I see a review on Harmony Central akin to "I put EMG 81s in my Hondo strat copy, now I sound just like Kirk Hammond [sic]"

Personally I think the EMG' s look great'
I had HZ4's in my Zakk Wylde LP, but I have intalled a JB though.
Another thing: I remember having read somewhere that Alexi used others than the HZ4 to record his albums. After that he used the HZ4.
But I ' m not sure about that.

when alexi had his jackson's he was using there jb-50c humbuckers with a jackson booster switch in it as well (i believe it was the jb-1000) after they were stolen and he got his esp's he switched to emg 81's with a pa-2 for a while then switched over to the hz-4 with the pa-2 gain switch when i play bodom songs i use a dimarzio x2n with a booster switch that i got from neal moser and it absolutly kills for getting that uber heavy metal tone, in fact when i met alexi and the bodom boys there were suprised how huge a tone i had, if you play heavy metal of anykind i have to suggest the x2n, it nails it completly plus with my booster emg's cant touch the output i get!

Dude, that is one hella-long sentence!
As far as EMGs not touching an X2N with a booster switch, no sh*t. Put a booster on a super low output single coil, and it'll be louder than anything without a booster.

if you do not want the HZ4 get a dimarzio X2N and set it away from the strings.
these two are very very similar tonally and trust me i own both. NO duncan sounds like the H4.
under the cover of the H4 is two large blade poles and it uses a ceramic magnet
these are the same design features of the X2N.
the only real difference between the H4 and the X2N is the output.
so if you set the X2N a bit further away it will dupe the tone of the H4.

Speaking of the children I'm looking forward to their new album this year. I liked alexi's tone on follow the reaper best, but i'm not sure what he was using as a pickup then.

EMG makes a booster switch which can be found on their website. I think its a +10 gain but I'm not sure.

i got mine off of www.nealmoser.com
emg makes 2 boosters the pa-2 and the afterburner, the pa-2 is *I believe* a 12db boost and the afterburner replaces your tone knob with a gain control (which goes up to 20db) my booster is a 10x booster (whatever output i have multiply by 10)

I think it boosts the overall output of your pickup cause when people mix passives and actives they recommend a booster for the passives so they will be "as hot" as the active. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
