Since the amp is so small, it would be very easy to troubleshoot in your local guitar shop.
Try another guitar through your amp and then try your guitar with a different amp.
If the employees don't take tips, at least buy something or offer to buy them lunch. This relationship is integral down the road and will save you a ton of time and money.
