Pickups that everyone else loves...

Re: Pickups that everyone else loves...

I've pretty much ruled out any humbuckers for my sound. The '59 is the closest I've used to being a humbucker that I liked. I've tried the '59, a C-5, a C2, a Dimarzio Norton, a JB and a PAF Pro. It's a shame that it took all those pickups to convince me that P-90s are my sound. Somebody on this forum said it best when they said that a good set of p-90s is heaven.

Re: Pickups that everyone else loves...

No matter how much I've tried, I just don't care for the JB. I'm still not sure what I think about the Custom Custom. Some days I like it and other days it gets on my nerves. I think it has a lack of bass personally. Mind you, I've only tried both of these pickups in Les Pauls. I like the A2P bridge for playing blues, but it doesn't mesh with my heavy rock style that much I don't think.

Re: Pickups that everyone else loves...

I can't stand the '59n at all, there's just nothing there to it. Too scooped, highs are too brittle, lows are too boomy, and it just doesn't cut through in general.

I have had so many pickups that didn't do it for me. Not all of them Duncans either.

The Duncans would be Pearly Gates, Sreamin Demon, Alnico II single coil, Hot rails, HB-102 & HB-103 and Custom Custom although I liked the Custom Custom the best and should have kept it.

Dimarzios would be PAF, Double Whammy, Al Dimeola, Super 2, Air Norton, Humbucker from hell, and Paf Pro. I am still trying to make the Humbucker from hell work for me.

Fender Texas Specials.

Gibson Dirty Fingers.

Kent Armstong Mega Distortion.

Bill Lawrence XL-500. I am still trying to make this one work for me. Good tone just not enough power.

Carvin pickups. Horrible single coils serviceable humbuckers.

EMG 81 and 85. I hate EMG's.

Snowdog

This is a long list!!! :smack:

Re: Pickups that everyone else loves...

Before I started using the dimebuckers, I tried an SH-6. I bought it because it sounded really cool and I thought it was going to be soooo awesome--it wasn't.

I finally got it into my guitar and I hated it; It sounded too thin and lacked that certain "chunk" I like in my tone, in short: it just wasn't for me.

59n.....lacks clarity with a boomy muddy undefined low end in every guitar I've ever put it in.
