Pickups to replace Gibson BB1 and BB2

Re: Pickups to replace Gibson BB1 and BB2

Doesn't seem like most players do, not that it's a popularity contest. Go with what's best for you.

I'd say most players also don't use their volume/tone controls often, and most players don't even know the difference between different wirings. Most players also don't hear tone quite like some of us here do... I'm not sure if I envy or pity them... ignorance is bliss.

I will say this: once I have the money and time, I am going to upgrade my stock Les Paul with a bone nut, 50's wiring with CTS pots, and a better bridge/tailpiece. I'm pretty sure these things make that much of a difference.

Re: Pickups to replace Gibson BB1 and BB2

Just posting a followup here:

I put a Seymour Duncan Custom 5 pickup into the guitar in the OP (Gibson Les Paul Trad), replacing the Burstbucker 2 in the bridge.

The Custom 5 is exactly like others described: a "PAF on steroids". Beefier low end, smoother high end (not necessarily my preference), and enough mid range presence to still satisfy. I lost a bit of the airy quality that the BB2 had, but in exchange, I get a PAF-ish pickup with more "oomph" to it.

Not sure if it is a keeper or not yet for this guitar. I am concerned that my neck pickup will not match up well (Burstbucker 1) since it is significantly lower output. I'll repost soon enough and let ya know what I determine.

I have a guitar I built with SH-11 in the bridge and Pearly Gates in the neck with push/pull pots on both. Great tone and extremely versatile. My favorite guitar.
