Piecing together Fender guitars.

Re: Piecing together Fender guitars.

I know I am way behind on getting some quality pics....soon, very soon.

Re: Piecing together Fender guitars.

When spec'ing out my Tele project, which I am planning on getting moving next year, I was looking at several aftermarket places as well as Fender bodies and necks from eBay. If the right body comes up, then I'll jump on it. Thing is, not many LPB bridge humbucker with Strat hardtail Teles come up very often. ;)

That's why I'm looking at Warmoth instead. Same with the neck. When it comes to Strat necks, I'm fine, but not with Tele's. The profiles mess with my hands and make my fretting hand hurt....one of the reasons I had to sell my '91 Am. Standard. Yeah, I could have gotten another neck but it wouldn't have been the same. That Tele was too sweet and incredible sounding to risk losing the magic it had. So, off it went. The plan I have is to get a neck with the same profile as my Frankenstrat, the Warmoth boat contour.

Now, if I was going to assemble another Strat, I'd most definitely would be looking at Fender parts of eBay. Heck, I'd love to come across a neck from an Iron Maiden Strat like the one I have now but I've never seen any, just a few complete guitars. I LOVE that neck.

If I could be let loose in the Corona Fender factory for a day to piece together my own Strat from a bunch of parts, I'd have a blast and it would probably take me almost all day to do it too....LOL

Re: Piecing together Fender guitars.

Assembling a guitar from fender parts is not simething new......people are doing it since the 60's and 70's......remember Clapton's blackie or David Gilmour's black strat.....I think assembling strat from various fender (and non fender quality parts) is the best thing to do......Many models out of the fender calatolgue are offered without some specs or colour options one might like to have.....in case you love the colour of a 57 reissue strat but hate the playability of the 7.25 radius or vintage frets the perfect move is to change the neck with a modern one, built with the vintage appearance (for ex. from the hot rod series). The big plus is that you get a guitar with exactly the specs you want, the neck profile you prefer, the colour option you like most....it's like having the CS build something for you.

Many people think that building a strat (or a tele ) will have various problems with the compatibility of the various parts......I've assembled dozens of strats and teles both for personal use and for friends and with the correct planning untill now i have NEVER encountered a problem.....Don't be afraid to try it, we are talking mass produced guitars here so no future collectivity issues e.t.c. Furthermore i do not care for resale value since i know if a guitar is a keeper or not.....

Here are some of my "projects":

Re: Piecing together Fender guitars.

Killer guitars, Fenderiarhs! I'm glad you posted them in this thread.

Man, I really love that tele. Lake Placid blue in double bound is sweet!

Re: Piecing together Fender guitars.

Speaking of necks from ebay, did anyone ever do business with Stratosphere?

They annoy the hell out of me with what I consider keyword and category spamming and their FAQ basically says "leave me alone", so the current impression is very negative. I would love to get a V-neck without having to order one from a custom shop, though.

Nice guitars, fenderiarhs. You present the perfect point of view by having those NICE guitars from various sources.
