If memory serves, most PJ Marx humbuckers had Red, Black, White & Bare wires.
Tape the red wire off. (The wire accesses only 1 coil so you can split the pickup if you so desire.) White to hot, black & bare to ground. If it's out of phase with the other pups in yer guitar then use Black to hot, white & bare to ground. The wire they used seems a bit flimsy, so if you have issues, try cutting back an inch or so and strip to fresh bare wires and re-tin them. Do it gently though because like I said, the wire can be kinda flimsy.
Also, I *think* they did some humbuckers with 4 conductors + bare wire. I'm not positive, though.
