Plasti- Dip'd Guitar?

A few weeks ago, I picked up a Charvel Desolation Star (1 hum bolt on), with plans to upgrade just about everything. I have a new floyd, a tremol-no (for dive only), a BKP Miracle Man pickup.

I'm not sure what to do about cosmetics. At first I thought about wrapping the guitar with an automotive vinyl wrap. Now I'm thinking about painting the guitar with Plasti Dip. For those of you who don't know, Plasti- Dip is peelable spraypaint. Once the paint is dry, you can peel it right off whatever you painted. This video is an example -

Would this be a good idea as a project? Has anyone ever plasti-dip'd a guitar? what were your results?

I don't know. But I suppose if you don't like it, you can just peel it off.

I like a natural finish with either poly, or Tru-Oil.

Considering how often I have to re-do my crummy paint jobs, being able to just peel it off to start over would be a bonus.

Re: Plasti- Dip'd Guitar?

IMO, one potential issue is that Plastidip tends to feel tacky. Having my right forearm sticking to a tacky surface doesn't sound like fun to me.

Re: Plasti- Dip'd Guitar?

I have plastic dipped a lot of things but my guitar wasn't one of them, but I'd have to admit it sounds like fun ...

Re: Plasti- Dip'd Guitar?

It'll deaden every bit of the natural resonance of the wood. In other words, the guitar will sound acoustically dead. And because your hardware will be attached to it, your strings will probably sound old even when they aren't.

That stuff is for wheels.
