Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

I played on some baked maple boards last weekend, and they were pretty nice. Some of them looked really good, too.

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

I have played several guitars with Richlite boards. It feels good and has a tone that is virtually identical to Ebony. Toss in that it is maintenance free and I call it a winner.

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

+1 I like the maple boards now....

I played a natural finished Les Paul Classic Custom the other day. To be honest, if I didn't already have a LP that I really like, I'd be all over it. It was a great sounding guitar. It killed, and I mean killed when played through a DrZ Mz 18, and just destroyed the universe when played through a fender Supersonic 22.

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

If I was getting a guitar with a Richlite board, it would HAVE to have stainless frets. I'm not sure how Richlite is going to take a refret, so stainless frets IMO would be a must

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

They could just as well use pearwood. Pearwood has been used for violin fingerboards for quite a while and once stained is hard to tell apart from ebony.

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

I haven't played a richlite board yet, but I do have one of the Melody Maker Explorers with a baked maple board. I love the way that one feels and looks.

I'd imagine that richlite isn't really so bad. They still seem to be selling the hell out of them.

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

This isn't the first time Gibson has used plastic fretboards either. In the 80's Studio's had phenolic resin Ebonal boards.

Re: Plastic "Richlite" Fingerboard

Baked maple is awesome and from what I hear Richlite is great too. Dont knock it til you try it.

I would do baked maple but I have a hard time with the idea of Richlite. I suppose I will have to try a guitar that has it. Like I said I know that wood alternatives can sound good. Heck I have heard those see-through Lucite guitars are supposed to really sound good, but I like wood. If you seen my post about my new PRS you can tell I really dig fine woods.
