I've either never played a MIK Dean, or it's been so long I don't remember. Regardless...

Wow, whole lot of guitar for $399 used. I didn't plug it in, but the weight felt really nice, and that V-shaped neck carve felt awesome!

I'm not buying it. I'm just saying that it was a nice guitar.

79 Series Deans from Korea have been known to be a good bang for the bucks guitar.

As are the Chicago Series guitars from Korea. I still have the ML my wife found in a pawn shop. Mint condition.

Show me a USA Fender, or a Gibson - V, Explorer or Les Paul Studio or higher for that. And not one that was ran over by a truck....

I'd hit it for 399 in a heartbeat.

Show me a USA Fender, or a Gibson - V, Explorer or Les Paul Studio or higher for that. And not one that was ran over by a truck....

I'd hit it for 399 in a heartbeat.

In the last 5 years, I've snagged an ESP Eclipse for 380, a Fender Am Std for 325 (grimy and a leftie, but whaddaya know, plenty of RIGHT handed Hendrix fans dig it), and a couple cheapie Gibsons for 450ish (dead mint Gothic vee and upgraded Faded Vees for 500 or 550 w/case, immediately flipped on for $120), SG Gothic w/case 450 or 500 (again, dead mint, case flipped on for 100), SG Standard w/ case for 550 (yup flipped for 100)... Skipped on a great 90s LP Studio for 450. Etc.

Also once traded a guitar that came as a disassembled $125 pile of parts for an Ibby Prestige RG 1570. And once, a cab I got as a $100 sweetener for a top of (Korean) line Schecter FR superstrat w/EMGs (surprisingly boring) AND a Marshall Haze, together easily worth an American Standard at pawnshop prices.

You just gotta hustle and juggle a bit if you're broke, buy low sell/trade high, unbundle cabs and cases, and guitars fund themselves... net, i havent got a single cent of money spent on gear in my life.

But if youre thinking "big whoop, them's the good ol days", ALSO seen fulbrand ESPs for 400-500 in the last month even, actually

I'd hit the Dean for $399 before some budget model LP that likely needs work for that kind of money, and I'm as big a fan of Gibson guitars as their is.

Craigslist.org & your local guitar shop with a used section... and it's not all crackheads, there's plenty of spring cleaning, moving sales, graduation/enlistment/dropping out sales, stuff babydaddy forgot when he blew town or went to jail with unpaid childsupport, etc etc.

As well as the usual unemployed firesale


PS I hear ebay and some other websites have their moments too, but apparently I'm a closet conservative technophobe so I can't rightly say

None of those - in my opinion - beats a Dean Chicago V assembled in good working order for $399. But I hear you, patience and watching can nail some bargains.

The fit & finish on the Dean was excellent. Like I said before, it was a very nice guitar. Also, I checked back on the store's website, and the Dean's price is actually $340.

After owning a recent Gibson Melody Maker (which I've since traded), I would also take a high end import over a budget USA guitar. The Epiphone Dot I traded for the Melody Maker was a way nicer guitar, and the Dean was at least as nice at the Epiphone.

None of those - in my opinion - beats a Dean Chicago V assembled in good working order for $399. But I hear you, patience and watching can nail some bargains.

Uhm... NOTHING ever sold badged Dean in any timeperiod past or present can hold a candle to an ESP Eclipse (yes fullbrand) or a Fujigen Ibby Prestige RG from the 90s.

Grimy guitars can be cleaned up with 5 bucks in alcohol and towels. It's like a busted foglight on a used car you'rr haggling over --- a very FORTUNATE surprise.

Gibson Gothics were solid, but that was just business for resale. If anything it's the SG Standard that was utterly unmemorable.

Lefties can be sold for good money if you're in no hurry.
