Re: played a Diezel Herbert + matching cab !!!! head is only $4490 !!!!

I donno man. I think the new Smashing Pumpkins stuff was done with a Herbert (not sure, but I see a Diezel in Corgan's live rig) and I love that ridiculously bright over the top sound. I'm also a fan of the tones on STP recordings with a modded Demeter TGP-3, so...

Re: played a Diezel Herbert + matching cab !!!! head is only $4490 !!!!

eh don't get me wrong, I could make it work, at least for rhythms. Man, I cranked that thing too.

but with tax that's 5 grand for an amp head - and any repairs, have to ship it to Germany?

If it was just 2 grand, I'd only be slightly more interested. Eh--Solid-state-ish distortion and wimpy mids and bass that can't be dialed out and harsh presence. I could probably live with all that, but I could not dial out the white noise from the lead tone and single-note lines no matter what I did, even with the gain knob on "1" (one). The mid-cut switch is awful. Instant Metal Zone. bleh. Maybe after a month of tweaking I could get something more useable out of it.

The VH4 is supposed to be the aggressive, pissed off one though. But I'm not as curious about this brand anymore.

Been a while since I griped about stuff on here. Had to be done. The price tag is ridiculous.

Re: played a Diezel Herbert + matching cab !!!! head is only $4490 !!!!

I plugged into an Einstein in Atlanta and considered ditching everything for a Diezel. I just really gelled with it. The price prohibited it though.

I almost picked up a VH4 over the summer in a trade, but I felt like the guy STILL wanted too much for his and wouldn't give me enough for mine...not to mention I didn't have a Midi switcher so i had not way to change channels. Overall, strangely enough, I preferred the Einstein to the VH4. I felt that it was more intuitive and easier to get a great sound from. I've never played a Herbert but Down from Up uses them and I dig their tones.

Me too, at first. I played these chords on clean and Texas mode ...

and about shat myself from the clarity. But I am a weird metal guy that likes older, warmer tones and not these scooped modern ones, and the distortion (of which the Einstein has plenty) didn't have enough beef or anger or thick midrange for me. The Herbert had more of that I think, especially with the mid-cut off, but both had this white shhhh noise regardless of gain or saturation amounts when I was really trying to get into it and play my fast stuff...

Overall, strangely enough, I preferred the Einstein to the VH4.

I can see that, lotsa folks do. The Einstein I played at the store was the head, not a combo, and thru my Uberkab I bet it could crush small planets. The VHT Fatbottom 212 I connected to it could *not* handle its low end at all, even at mild-mannered settings (all knobs at noon).

The Herbie has 6 output tubes -- can ya even get matched sextets? I guess one could get them from Mesa.

I guess they just didn't seem warm to me. Missing some midrange I like. Voiced with too much inherent bass, even on high notes. I can see why people like them though. Not for me, my wallet and I surmised with great relief.

What kind of Guitar were you using? I used my R8 (Seth/78) and a................................Blue Denim Modern Eagle that I soiled. They seemed pretty stinking think in the midrange if memory serves me correctly. I'd like to do another test since it's been 2 years and see if I still feel the same way. I also tried a VHT UL and that particular VHT turned me off of them completely until the arrival of the Sig X.

Into the Einstein I used a new EVH, and a Peavey HP. Both are similar to all of my guitars.

How'd you like the EVH?

Those HPs look sharp. I've yet to play one though.

Welcome to the world of international trade and the according taxes and Tariffs.

I´d like to see brand new USA Jacksons in stores @ under 3k USD
Or VHTs for under 3,5k
Hell I could even live with US Fenders being under 1k if all else fails...

But it´s all not gonna happen until I move back to the States.

Considering that that Diezel costs only about 500$ less in Germany where it´s made, you´re making off like a bandit at that price.... Diezel, Engl and Porsche are just some of the companies that often sell their product in the USA CHEAPER than they do at home ;)

I´m not saying your gripe isnt justified BTW, but I feel that the blame should be put where due, and in this case the price is most certainly not the amp manufacturers fault but the fault of Import taxes, transportation fees and other costs essential to the process of getting a produt out of one sovereign nation and into another ;)

THE US economy being all shot to hell while Europe retains a strong currency isn´t exactly helping you, either... just making guitars even more unnecessarily expensive for us over here because prices don´t go down when currency value goes up ... essentially we´re currently paying double US MSRP for almost any US made goods. ;)

Did it sound like a bumble bee raping your skull and exploding in your eye socket?

Re: played a Diezel Herbert + matching cab !!!! head is only $4490 !!!!

i was about to tell you to sell me the mako

Re: played a Diezel Herbert + matching cab !!!! head is only $4490 !!!!

I don't have a Mako, it was just a pic I googled for an avatar

Andrew Solner is a one-man company and he's not taking any orders right now -- which is okay because right after I talked to him via email I realized I don't have the budget for it anyway. All I have to go on are sound clips, so I would only order one if I could easily afford one. Maybe in a few months...l have to see how loan modifications go with my mortgage, and my work situation. (I was so relieved when neither Diezel gave me GAS.)

me too, just the clips -- nice clips though

it was the pics of the amp's insides and the price and the hype that got me to really pay attention to those clips, but they're just clips; I hope they're representative
