We played our first gig last night and I brought along my Strat with the Antiquity Surfer/Texas Hot combo. Two Surfers and a bridge Texas Hot Custom. I didn't bring my Matchless...I brought my blackface Deluxe Reverb with the Celestion G12H30.
I'd planned to bring my Matchless Chieftan and my Strat with the new Duncan Stack Plus pickups, but this was for a private party and we didn't play that loud.
Not to brag, but the tone was stunning! First gig I've done in quite a while and, IMO, one of the best tones I've ever had live.
The Surfers are simply the best neck and middle pickups available, IMO. I prefer them to the original pickups in my '63. They're every bit as lively and dynamic but because the middle pickup is RW/RP I have humcanceling in the #2 and #4 5 way switch positions...a real plus over the '63 Strat.
And the alnico 2 Texas Hot Custom I have measures a full 10K! It is fat and ballsy as all get out and when I take a solo on it I get a full throaty tone...not the ice picky overly glassy tone of some alnico 5 bridge pickups.
Anyways, the gig went great!
