PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

Something else odd now, I bet this has to do with one of the poweramp tubes, Its not very loud, I mean sure, its making sound, and its descently loud, but its not what I'd expect 50 watts to sound like, and Im in a small room, I can dime all the volume knobs and it isnt hurting my ears.

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

1. Check both the channel and Master volumes.

2.Check the tubes , make sure they are all lit up bright.

I own a C30 and it is more than enough to get your ears ringing in a closed room so the 50 should just kill.

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

It has 4 tubes to the left when Im looking at the back, the 4 are identical. Then to the right theres 3 larger sized tubes, 2 are glowing dimly and 1 isnt glowing at all.

The 4 are glowing very brightly on the left. Im guessing thats the preamp section?

And the 3 tubes are the poweramp?

there should be 4 power amp tubes no? i thought they ran 4 El84?....and if those are power tube, only having 3 should cause some problems either way

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

I own a Classic 50 head version and it is loud as hell! But it took me a while to figure out the volume and pre and post controlls... On the amp i have a master volume.... Then for clean i have a volume as well but it is more like a preamp gain volume but overall volume is still the master.. Then you have Pre and Post on the dirt channel.... Turn you master volume down and turn the Pre and Posts controlls up... Then controll the overall volume by the master volume... took me a long time to figure out the controlls on the Classic 50.... I like the Pre and Posts around 60% up.

It is odd your pilot light is not working... Sounds like you may have a problem. As far as the tubes go there is 3 small ones 12ax7's for the Preamp and there is 4 EL84's for the power amp...

PS- I have heard that the first tube gets hit the hardest in tube amps so it may glow a little brighter

Ok, something else odd, the clean channel is VERY VERY VERY damn loud, but the lead channel is quiet.

I think we have a dead/not pluged in preamp tube...

Could be, but as i said before make sure the clean channel volume is up all the way and use the Master volume for the over all volume.... your clean channel has a pre volume and your dirt channel has a Pre and Post gain controll.... Then your over all volume is the master volume.... On my Head version of the Classic 50 the Master volume is beside the Pressence controll....

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

I understand, But when one of the tubes isnt lighting up, its not because im not fiddling with the knobs correctly.

I see... Sorry..... Send Peavey an e-mail and ask them.. One of their techs there (last name is Brown i think) has helped me a fair bit..... and they write back within a day...

Ok, I called an amp repair shop and they said I should take the tube out and go buy another.

I've only got $25 on me, how much do one of thoes tubes cost?

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

When taking the amp apart to get to the tubes, is there anyway to discharge the transfomer? I dont want to get the piss shocked out of me.

the tubes are behinde a grill, behinde the back panel on the amp. Not like in the clasic 30.

Re: PLEASE!!! Help, I just got my new amp and its not working!

As long as you're disconnected from the mains, you shouldn't get a shock from the transformer.
