please help with custom wiring diagram

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

There is another thing I noticed. I don't know if is an error or not.
It is more usual to take the volume output from the wiper of the potentiometer.
.

just like to point out, that there are times that this using the wiper as the output is not desirable and what you are trying to accomplish will not work using the wiper as the output. generally people do use the wiper as the output but there are exceptions to this

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

Okay, RavensNest... try this one on for size.

ArtieToo and Teleplayer, perhaps you'd like to double-check?

I have edited the schematic to swap the connections around the way that I would do it. I hope you don't mind me doing that.

To answer the OP's question about tone caps in post #1, my opinion is that its likely better to have a 0.022uF for both tone caps, so the split coil tones sound a bit more lively.
Since you already have the components, you can use what you have got. If you find the split sounds aren't as bright as you want, then maybe try the 500k tone pot and 0.022uF capacitor combination.

Umm What's a wiper? Also I was told to use.047 for single coil??

For most instances it doesn't really matter whether the output comes off the wiper or not, so I just put them together like this... no real reason why.

I do agree, though about the pot & cap values you suggested. I'm assuming that RavensNest wants to be able to reallycalm down the highs from the split coils, but I personally would go with 500k pots and .022 caps as well.

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

Also, many single coils use a .047 because they're brighter than humbuckers and the.047 cap takes away more highs than a lower value. 250k pots do the same thing in comparison to 500k pots. It really comes down to a matter of personal preference.

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

thank you for the clarification. umm. to wire the ground to the bushing... i have a mustang tremolo tailpiece. the bushing for the bridge does not touch the tailpiece... do i solder it to both or one is still fine? is it safer to solder it to the tail piece as seeing how the strings are inserted through the tailpiece?

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

Just one is fine... the strings will connect them after that.

i see. thank you :). the 4pdt switch, do you know if it fits the jazzmaster? also, which diagram am i using? the latest from tele or from you (Briguy1968)? thanks and I'm sorry for not knowing anything.

From what I can tell it should fit. It will likely be a little bigger (surface area) than the existing switch, but just in looking at Jazzmasters online it looks to me like there should be enough room there. To be prudent, find out the dimensions of the new switch and then measure the space on the back of the pickguard to verify.

As for which diagram to follow, take your pick. The only difference is that the inputs & outputs for the volume controls are reversed. Teleplayer was correct when he said that his way is more common. Mine is the same as is used on a Les Paul (or other 2V 2T setups) if you want the volume controls to work completely independently of one another... which doesn't apply to your situation. Because the volume pot is not necessarily a one-way street, electrically it means that my diagram introduces the tone control BEFORE the signal passes through the volume control, and Teleplayer's version introduces the tone control AFTER the signal passes through the volume control. Tonally, the difference would be very slight... if it's even noticeable.

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

Okay... here you go. I split the coils North for the bridge and South for the neck so it would be hum-canceling in the center toggle position when split. If you're actually planning on using the roller style pots for the upper bout, the wiring will be the same concept. I drew the grounds in such a way that they're easy to follow on the diagram, but you can move a couple around as long as they're all connected without any loops.

I hope your project goes well! :D

Actually, it's a piece of free software that Brandenburg turned me onto called "ExpressSCH," which comes as an add-on to a piece of software called "ExpressPCB" which is also free. You have to design your own components (pups, pots, switches, etc.) but they're not to difficult. After that it's pretty easy. It only does black and white, but I just use Microsoft Paint to fill with colors. If you want more info, PM me and I'll see about getting you pointed in the right direction.

Pm inbound :)

Pm inbound :)

the program takes a bit of getting used to and does take some effort to make your own little library of components. but after that, its pretty easy.. I use Paint Shop Pro with with a custom pallet/brushes that i made one day, just for doing my drawings. As you can see, my style is much different than BriGuy.. whatever works though. When someone sees my drawings, they know i did it and the same with bri..

here is a my latest drawing for a future guitar.. a more extreme wiring of what im using now in my #1
Future Custom DK-2_evolution from ver.4.jpg

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

hey Briguy1968 i got the 4dpt from the link you shown me. in the back there are 12 plugs and on the diagram there are only 9... did i get the right switch?

Re: please help with custom wiring diagram

I see 12 on the diagram… Three columns of four.
