Please tell me about the Nazgul.

I recently got a PRS baritone. It's great, but, as expected, pumps out A LOT of bass. I put a DiMarzio Dominion in the bridge position because it's the tightest-sounding pickup I had lying around. It sounds good overall, but it's still bassier than what I'd want.

The Nazgul sounds like the leanest, tightest, most aggressive, least bassy pickup in the Duncan lineup in the clips I've heard. It also seems to have some Distortion and Black Winter-like characteristics, and I really like both of those pickups. I, however, am worried that it would be too low output compared to my Distortion and Black Winter equipped guitars. I like to be able to plug my guitars in without having to adjust the gain settings (I don't mind EQ difference, but I do like to have similar levels of saturation going on).

So what do you guys think? Will the Nazgul be able to keep up with the Distortion and Black Winter? Is it fast/tight/lean enough to counter my baritone's natural boominess? Or should I skip it altogether and go EMG for maximum control of the low-end?

Thanks.

:)

Re: Please tell me about the Nazgul.

The Nazgul absolutely can keep up with most anything. It has more upper mids than true highs (the Full Shred might be the brightest pickup in that regard). The Nazgul isn't very versatile- it does serious distortion, and that is what it was designed to do. If you never touch the clean channel, and you want crazy tight over-the-top grind, it is the right one.

My friend loves it and the black winters. He said it was tight and clear with upper mid crunch. It sounds like something I wanna try. I think he also said it has less lower mids then the distortion, black winters.

Thanks for the replies. :)

Yeah, I don't usually play cleans, and when I do, it's not on the bridge pickup. So I think I'll be alright in that regard.

So it's tighter/less bassy than the Distortion and BW? That's what I wanted to hear, lol.

Re: Please tell me about the Nazgul.

I have both the Nazgul and the Black Winter in different guitars. IMO the Nazgul can absolutely keep up with anything. Output-wise, it's a bit less hot than the Winter on paper, but sound-wise, you would never guess. The N has this really tight, chugging grind that makes it sound hotter than the DCR indicates. I love it personally. It's controllable, tight, with a nice upper-mid spike that isn't honky. On the subject of cleans, I'll disagree slightly with the majority: yeah, it won't give you sparkling cleans, but it produces some very usable Metallica-like clean sounds with the tone rolled off. (I still use the Sentient neck for most cleans, of course).

In short, 5/5 Witch-Kings of Angmar would highly recommend it. :)

Re: Please tell me about the Nazgul.

Thanks for all the replies, dudes. So the general consensus is that is hot enough to keep up with the Black Winter and tight enough for what I want? :)

Re: Please tell me about the Nazgul.

I hate to say this, but if you try the Nazgul, you may wind up tearing out the BW bridge you have too. IMHO, the Naz is a far better PUP than the Winter. I know you like the Winter, I couldnt jell with it tho. Lean and mean is exactly how I would describe it
