Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

I want a pedal that can go in front of my amp on a clean channel to give me some awesome distortion (it would be really nice to have two channels of distortion rhythm and lead) and/or a boost. I am looking at the Plexitone and the Jekyll and Hyde. I am trying out a J&K now. It is nice but I could use more distortion (I use the pickup booster to add more gain). Which is better Plexitone or J&K? I don't really want to spend any more than 210.

Re: Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

the jandK is a great relitively inexspensive pedal...you might want to check out the new SD SFX-03 (search this forum)...if I had a real amp id get one.
its either that or the MXR double shot distortion.

my blatantly ignorant opinion

Re: Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

What amp is used?
And how much is much distortion?
The Plexi is an overdrive, clear and revealing, got a healthy lowend, and have some gain, but it does not compress much on its own, works good with Marshall/Hiwatt/British styled amps, likes greenbacks, and G12H 30 speakers, preferly in closedback cabs.

I get some great sounds out of my J&H, and it's versitile! Never tried the Plexitone I'm afraid, but I'd be surprised if it gave you more "distortion" than the J&H.

Re: Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

Hey guys. My amp is a Crate VFX 5212 tube amp. yes it has distortion but I want a pedal to use on the clean channel to have distortion with flexibility and so I can use my delay in front of the amp. I also have a Fender Bassman reissue. The more I play the j&k the more I like it. and it is pretty versitile. I really don't know what I mean by more distortion. I guess just more gain, but I can use the pickup booster to add more gain, I guess, the j&K doesnt have as much gain as the amp but the distortion sounds better with the J&K. I still need to try out the J&K at a band practice. any other suggestions.

Re: Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

If you use both sides of the J&H together, you can get some pretty wicked distorted tones.

Re: Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

I think the J&H should be able to do some serious distortion. What type of music do you play?

Re: Plexitone vs. Jekyll and Hyde

I tried out the J&K at band practice today. I actually worked out great. It doesnt have as much gain as my amps distortion, but I don't think it is needed. We play rock and hard rock and blues (SRV, Hendrix).
