If that's my Lester, i wouldn't take the Pickguard off. It just kills the "Classic Look" of the instrument. What are you gonna do with those holes? It just ruins it. Plus you don't want to scratch that awesome finish. Some players took the Pickguards off of their LP's simply because it gets in the way of their playing style ( they mess with the Volume and tone controls a lot while playing like Gary Moore and Peter Green ) and not because it looks cool. Or some people take the toggle switch plate off just because it looks "Cool" even if it doesn't really get in the way. I guess i'm just too traditional. If a certain thing gives a guitar it's own character, then i usually leave it alone.
