Most definitely on...Les Paul's look silly without them, IMO. Pretty top or not.

The pickguard deffinatly has to go... no-ones gunna notice those holes unless they're up real close anyway

Thats's true and it looks waaaaaay better without the pg... more... like... a lady.

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

A small brown fine tip sharpie marker will fill that hole that you're seeing. I've done that before.

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

buy another to keep one on and the other off
:D

i vote 'off'

cheers

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

I think it looks better with it on. Like it gives it more color contrast or something (IMHO).

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

Thats one of the nicer looking LP tops I've seen... So don't cover it up ;)

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

Actually, I honestly don't think you can go wrong either way. Looks great with it on as well, but I voted off :)

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

I had "on" in my first thought and "on" in the second...but nuntius is right...it looks always great. Depends how you feel, sometimes you can put it on and sometimes take it off :laugh2:

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

Just leave it off for awhile. You can always put it back on....it's not a permanent change.

I will add this. When you're wearing a Les Paul with a pickguard, it creates an optical illusion of looking smaller. When off, it actually looks bigger next to your body.
That might be something that'd sway your decision. Do the mirror check!

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

I prefer it on. It's just part of the classic look of a Les Paul, the way that fin offsets the curve of the body. :32:

There speaks a man who's spent a lot of time in front of a mirror with a Les Paul! :D

Fun, isn't it? :naughty:

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

Doesn't look right without it. Much more classic with it installed.

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

I'm torn ... personally I really like the pickguard on sunburst Pauls figured maple or not.

But that '58 has a real Duane Allman thing going on without the guard that looks incredible ... Tough Call

Off ... my final answer

Well, when I'm wearing a Les Paul, it looks like a ukelele anyway due to my largeness. And to whomever suggested that I get two, I actually have a new R7 that I left the guard on. ;)

Re: Poll: Les Paul Pickguard or No Pickguard PICS!

I say the guard should be taken off. Something that beautiful underneath NEEDS to be shown. With the guard on, it detracts away from it's beauty. I've seen a lot of "quality" Gibsons and the flames don't come anywhere remotely close to what's going on in yours.
