My hands sweat when I get excited while playing, so I depend on those little bumps to keep everything in place!
The Nylon "Max Grip" was in the variety pack. It was easy to hold and keep consistent. But for me it still "slips" off the strings when compared to Tortex.

I tried the Gator Grips a few years back. They felt about the same as Tortex and were more stable when picking. But I literally ground one up in a single rehearsal. I never seem to wear out Tortex. I lose a few of them, but if I would have marked them when I threw them in a case, I bet there are still some in there from '87 which I haven't lost.

I have not tackled too much acoustic yet with the Jazz III. Acoustic is where I have every thickness Standard Tortex - except the Green. I pieced my own Tortex variety pack together at GVMH back in the day and Bill was likely out of the Green since Dime made them really popular. Depending on what I am playing on acoustic, I use a different thickness. I think you posted something like this earlier. I may need a comparable range of Tortex Jazz III's for acoustic, or sort out how to evolve my acoustic picking with the Pitch Black to compensate for not having the varied thickness.

Meh, if nothing else the Jazz III has me playing/practicing more!

I did the Jazz III thing for a while, but ended up liking the "XL" varieties better than the small ones I started with. I also moved up to 2.0mm picks briefly, but have settled back down to more traditional thicknesses.

These days, I use Dunlop Flow in .88-1.0mm and White Fangs in 1.0-1.1mm and I'm pretty happy. These have the precision tip feel I liked in the Jazz III for faster picking, but also more grip and better geometry for strumming.

Yeah, the max grips and similar (some of the sig jazz IIIs have the same kind of deal) are my favourite. D'addario makes green and blue nylpro picks that I've been checking out recently - they're a jazz III shape with partial maxgrip texturing but just a hair bigger. I've been trying to decide if I like them better or not.

At least around here, they come it at under half the price of the Jazz IIIs, which is nice.
