Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

But I realy like that phat tone from a good old P-90 pup over that of a humbucker, anyday...

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

For me always been the APH II neck. Instant Richard Betts tone in my lester. :soapbox:

Guess I cant use his nickname.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

I have a few neck pickups that I really like. The Antiquity neck, 59n, PGn and the JPn are among my favorites. I currently have one of each in my 4 primary HB loaded guitars.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

The Jazz, '59, and Seth are my favorites for the neck.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

Wow. I didn't expect to get 100+ votes when I started this thread. This is awesome. :headbang:

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

59n is my all time favorite. I love it on cleans.....it has a really nice warm tone to it. Gives me my bottom end...which i like. I'd say my second choice would be the Jazz. They both are great neck pups.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

I had to vote for the Jazz. Ever since I bought my Schecter C-1 Classic that comes with the Jazz/JB combo from the factory. I can see why Seymour call 'em his favorite set to use. And yes, split 'em up and you can get some great Strat/Tele sounds out of those pickups as well. They give that guitar so much depth....I'm truly amazed every time I play it.
I also really like the Custom/PGn combo in my LP a lot. From Billy G. to Eddie V., it's all good!

I love PG's, but have to be true to myself. I voted other, because I love antiquity necks more. Somehow this made me think of Greeney's song "loved another woman"

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

I've used a 59 in the neck of one of my Les Pauls and it sounded incredible. The same can be said for a Pearly Gates I used in the neck of my 335. In both cases, this was provided that their mate was the same or a similar (bridge) model. I still use a Screamin' Demon in the neck of my CS Non-Rev. Firebird which has a Custom in the bridge.

IMO, alot has to do with the neck pickup's compatibility with the bridge pickup. I always found that unless the neck and bridge pickups were thoroughly compatible, I'd wind up setting my amp to one pickup for it's optimum sound where the other pickup's sound would be greatly sacrificed. In the same vein, to make two (incompatible) pickups sound decent, I'd be sacrificing optimum sound from both.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

...maybe i'm the only advocate here for high gain clarity in the neck, hence my choice- Full Shred. it's a tie with the Distortion actually but i have my inclinations for the FS...

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

I really don't like the sound of a full-space humbucker in the neck. I prefer the sound of a twin-blade Strat-sized pickup, like the Hot Rails. I like that roundness the tone gets; more of a classic Strat type of a tone.

That's been my experience, too. I think the physical size of it (the amount of string sensed by the pup) makes it much more strat like...tighter.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

I've only played a couple of these, but of the 59 and the Jazz, I liked the Jazz better for my playing. The 59 is a great pickup for sure, but the Jazz edged it out.

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

i voted other, cause i've never used a neck bucker :saeek:

although i'm gonna put a SH-5 in the neck of an LP one day :firedevil
with a custom shop bridge pup :headbang:

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

This may sound odd . . . but the Invader is killer. Now, I don't normally use it because I want a more '59-ish tone . . . vintage with just a hair of dirt . . . but for leads and such, the Invader is an amazing neck pickup. It drives real nicely into a tube amp . . . and I've never ever heard a pickup that sounds as fine for high-gain leadwork.

I just felt I'd throw that out there, so many people use that pickup in the bridge, but I don't like that sound so much . . .

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

i have a seymour duncan full shred, and it's defective.... one of the coils gives an extremely low, hardly audible output. tested this by wiring it directly to my gt-3 and holding a tuning fork next to the coils.

i took it apart and checked the impedances directly at the coil leads, one of them gives its regular 7 Kohms, the other one (the one that gives no output) measures around 1500K.

can't see anything else than a broken coil....... =(

Re: Poll: Your Favorite Neck Humbucker!

I voted Seth.

2nd would be a PG, 3rd a 59 bridge in the neck, and 4th a 59n
