Even though I've never played one, I tossed in a vote for the PG. I'm only judging by the CD though. There are actually things I like about the Distortion and the Full Shred too though.

But really the reason I started this thread is because I've grown disenchanted with my 59n. So I wanted to see what others might have to say.

I have used the 59 neck in two different guitars over the years. The first was paired with a JB in a Gibson Challenger (a Les Paul-ish bolt on from the 80s) and the two pickups were just made for each other.

Currently, I use a 59 neck with a Custom 5 in my Les Paul Custom. I believe that I am set for life, tonewise. In this guitar, the 59 neck is smooth and warm, but definitely NOT muddy. It can be thick and Cream-y, or it can have a little bite, depending on the use of the Tone knob.

Howdy,

Replaced my trusty '59 neck with a Jazz neck today and I like it a lot. Clearer with less bass. Exactly what I wanted.

A much better and seamless blend with the JB bridge for my taste.

I picked the Jazz. It's a great all-arounder.. nice smooth tone... and it sounds great split, too. I have an H/S/H Strat that features Jazz in the neck and SD in the bridge. Very nice setup.

Am I seeing things or is the Invader a choice? Who puts an Invader in the neck?

I'm all about the Jazzes, but then again... the only neck humbuckers I've played are the jazzes, 59's, pg's, and alnico II pros. Jazzes just do it for me all across the board.

My experience is kinda limited to 59's and Jazz. I just prefer Alnico 5, although I do
want to try the Pearly Gates and Seth Lover neck.

For now, I'll stick with "If it's good enough for the king of neck humbucker tone,
Robben Ford, it's good enough for these ears." That would be the 59.
The height adjustment dials it to my taste.

I have used the '59n and PGn religiously for years.

Always had a problem with them being a bit too bassy; although they both sound good by themselves, the amp EQ that favors them makes the bridge sound a bit shrill.

Just ordered a Jazz neck (with nickel cover) and it arrived today. Will install it tomorrow in SG #1.

Can't wait!

Mac, what kind of amp do you use? Couldn't you set your lead channel with less bass? I usually can't stand using my rhythm channel for lead....even when switching to the neck.

I have a friend that owns a '59 335 stereo. The PUPS in that guitar are the best I have ever heard!!!!!!(PAF,PAF).

I've just gone with a Jazz In my LP as I found the 59 a little muddy as the gain went up however in my all mohogany strat copy it sounds wonderful :newangel:

Haven't voted yet as I only have experience with the DDn, '59n and '59n ceramic.
I love the '59 but it doesn't work well with the JB in my rig. I'm still deciding if I should get a Deamon or a Jazz for the neck. The '59 will get a Custom as a partner in a different guitar.

I've only used the '59n, but am looking for something else. It's ok, but is just missing something. Mids, maybe? I need something less glassy, more warm and open. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe a Jazz?

After finding the Holy Grail Bridge pickup in the 59/Custom Alnico BRIDGE Hybrid pickup... experimentation lended me to create a 59/Jazz Alnico NECK Hybrid that seems to do it all and has that mystical clarity on the wound strings that only the Hybrids seem to possess...
Of the STOCK pickups... it would be a toss up of the Jazz, 59, PG, Seth, Antiquity and APII... they each have magical qualities and it really would depend on the spcific instrument
