Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

I never noticed your budget there in your first post! Sorry! Find an ADA MP-1 and a mosvalve poweramp or tube poweramp of some sort. Endless hot rodded Marshall tones, great cleans, built in stereo chorus......I played one for 18 years!

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

Easy a Fender Prosonic head. I had a power tube failure in mine one night and had to suffer through using a SLO the rest of the set. I HATED using the Soldano after playing through the Prosonic. These are the creations of Bruce Zinky and are real :rocket: :firedevil :argh: !!!! They also have both a switchable rec and a class A mode. You can buy a nice example for $600- $800 in Black but will go over a grand for the really rare colors like Lizzard Green.

I would look for the most ratty run down looking head I could find, then I'd send it to Jeff Seal and tell him what I wanted.

Jeff Seal have a site?

www.speakersurgeon.com

He's one of the forum bros here drop him a line and tell him what you are wanting thinking. I had him mod my Marshall. He also did work on Chops' BF Bandmaster. You can do a search and look at his work it is CLEAN!

A great jump off platform would be a SF bandbaster, dual showman, or bassman. Also any of the old Traynor heads sound good on their own, but can be modded for ridiculous tone as well.

Jeff uses good parts too. Carbon comps orange drops etc.

+100 on the Prosonic, currently I have the 2 10 combo and it rocks, great cleans great distortion. Great overall amp by Fender.

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

There's a problem with the lead channel, it's either a thermo-coupler or an ldr...It has about half the gain it should.

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

what are active tone controls?

i have them on my 80's bandit 112... basically on the lead channel you have bottom (bass) body (mid'd) high (treble) and at 12 o'clock the setting is '0' so you're basically able to cut and boost. like a three band eq.. my peavey can cut or boost 15db.. im not sure if other active tones are different

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

You could also buy a single channel Marshall 900 (the mark III version) and put a Soldano Hotmod in it. It would have all the gain of a SLO-100. Possibly even more.

Or... You can buy a Damage Control Demonizer pedal and a clean amp to run it through...

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

Damn can't even suggest our upcoming Enigma amp, that one is total hotrod Marshall...
Laney, or DSL-50??
JCM900 well only SLX2500...
JCM800 is not very distorted.

Re: Poor mans Soldano/Super Marshall?

If you think 100W is too much, I'd suggest the Yamaha T-50. It doesn't quite nail the Soldano sound (I've owned a T-100 and a couple of real Soldanos) but it was designed by Michael Soldano.
