Pop, Classic Rock, Metal, R&B/Funk, Jazz or Classical?

Diminished Triad

New member
What type of guitar/music do you usually play?

1. Pop
2. Classic Rock (Journey, Doobie Brothers, Boston etc.)
3. Metal (Black Sabath, Metallica, etc.)
4. R&B/Funk (Chaka Khan, Kool and the Gang, etc.)
5. Jazz (Benson, Earl Klugh, Larry Carlton, etc.)
6. Classical
7. Country
8. Reggae

Seems at times most who post are primarily metal/heavy rock fans, so figured I'd ask the question straight out.
Thanks!

number 3, METAL, from Sabbath to Candlemass, Metallica, Gamma Ray to Sodom and sometimes stuff like AC/DC, ZZtop, but there is a big diffetence from hearing and playing to prooperly playing............

For me it's primarily hard rock in the form of Alice in Chains, Mastodon, Slash/VR/GNR. A lot of classic rock and metal too like VH, Sabbath, Metallica, Dio, Iron Maiden. I've gotten away from it but I'll still bust out a riff or two from KSE, BFMV, Slipknot, Trivium and stuff like that from time to time.

As for my own music, it's mostly hard rock, not quite metal, some blues, and I've been trying to get into jazz/fusion/prog stuff.

None of the above. Punk, Pop-Punk, Post-Hardcore mostly, i.e. Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, Glassjaw, Refused, Alkaline Trio, Coheed and Cambria. Though I started learning to play by playing Metallica, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, GnR and such

R&B/Funk, Classic Rock, and occasionally jazz or reggae. I might be the only one on this forum who plays clean as often as distorted.

Metal...pretty much from the 80's

Re: Pop, Classic Rock, Metal, R&B/Funk, Jazz or Classical?

Classic Rock, Classic R&B and Funk, Blues, occasionally when I'm forced not to be stuck in the 60s I play some Alternative Rock and Grunge... no metal or shred...

I play classical and metal. I don't do covers except for Iron Maiden but don't really do that either. I'm working on original metal with an Opera Soprano but it's not the typical symphonic stuff out there. It's kinda Dream Theater/Iron Maiden.

I've also done a lot of instrumental stuff from acoustic to heavy stuff. It's all about feel to me not genre.

Progressive mostly. I dabble in classical.

Metal... thrash (Metallica, Anthrax) & power groove (Pantera, White Zombie). Anything fast & dirty, just like my women. :smokin:

Re: Pop, Classic Rock, Metal, R&B/Funk, Jazz or Classical?

Lately, I usually start noodling some jazzy progression, working out a funky rhythm, soloing over that which eventually will evolve into some rock kinda riff, which I then speed up whilst engaging any additional boost I might have on my board.
After that, I'm finally ready to learn some country licks :).

Hard rock. From Alice In Chains and Nirvana to Alter Bridge and Seether.

1 – 5, though my "classic rock" is more '50's and '60's than the stuff you mentioned, and my "pop" is also '50's and '60's almost exclusively. Also, my metal is more classic metal (i.e. Hendrix, Jeff Beck Group, Zeppelin, early Scorpions, early Priest, and of course Sabbath, which you mentioned). And my jazz is more New Orleans jazz, swing, big band, and '50's Las Vegas lounge – not really "jazz guitar" music. Also, classic country has to be added.
