Hello. I am looking for a new pickup to put In my guitar. I recently got an Invader like Tom Delonge of Blink-182 had back in the day but I absolutely hated how obstructive the bottom end was. So now I'm looking for a new pickup. I'm a relatively new player, only playing guitar for seven Months. But I need treble in my mix to stick out. Don't get me wrong, I love the chunky, bottom end sound, especially distorted, but the define treble end is most important for me. If you need an Idea of the sound I'm going for check out 'Down - Blink 182' and 'Feeling this - Blink 182'

I'm considering a Full Shred or a Screamin Demon. I've had hot pickups In my guitar since I started so if you can point out the importance of output much appreciated

My amp is a Peavey Vypyr VIP 2 and Guitar is and Epiphone SG Special in case you need to know.

Thank You, in advance

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

Full Shred is the pick out of those two. I have a Full Shred set in one of my guitars and play a blend of punk and metal. The Full Shred kills for this stuff.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I'm a big fan of the highs and FS is my pick of those two. If it's too bright, you can always shape your tone. It's easier to remove something than try to add something that isn't there.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I've never used a Full Shred but I have used the Demon a lot. To me the note definition of the Demon wouldn't be ideal for pop punk stuff, and those tones usually come from a hot pickup something you don't get from a Demon.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I used to have an Epi SG Special. The Duncan Custom (SH-5 or TB-5) worked great for pop-punk. At the time, I played a lot of Blink, MXPX, and whatever else pop-punk was out in the early 2000's and the Custom works great in this guitar for those styles.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

Thank You Guys!

I'm thinking the Full Shred might be the way to go but if anyone has experience with the 59/Custom hybrid can they speak to that?
I was trying to avoid the Custom because listening to the audio samples it sounds too Fuzzy/Messy with not enough Top End Fizzle
Also I don't mind low output because they're articulate and less muted

Is there any passive pickup that has a sound similar to the Livewire Metal Humbucker cause that sounds like a tone killer for my type of music

EDIT: I meant "Tone Killer" in a good way

Anyone Home? Lol
So I'very kept on looking at some sound samples and have come to choosing between 4 pickups
-Full Shred
-Pearly Gates
-Duncan Distortion
-Custom/ Custom 5
Which one would work best for Pop-Punk in an SG

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

Well Tom went on to use a Gibson Dirty Fingers which is dang close to a Duncan Distortion. I would definitely go with the Distortion. They are super versatile. You can cover any type of pop punk/punk/NY Punk/British Punk and anything else you can think of in that realm.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I often play a lot of pop punk with the demon in an lp it's great, found out later that the lead guitar player in The Ataris used one back around End is Forever and So Long Astoria came out

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I set the Vypyr to XXX model on Bass: 5 Mids 4 Treble 7

I listened to the Distortion audio samples and love how the highs sizzle. I'll probably choose that but whatever I choose I'll pair it with a Sentient.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I actually own a Super Distortion
A guy in my art class gave me one because he was going to use it but I convinced him to give it to me because of it's value (Which he was unaware of)
I'll probably resell It because I heard some sound samples and didn't like them
That and I'm skeptical about any pickup that's not a Fender, Gibson, Or Seymour Duncan

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

Try it first. The Dimarzio distortion sounds great for pop-punk.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I'll actually just get a Duncan Distortion and Pair it with a Sentient

Unless anyone thinks a Gibson Dirty Fingers would be better?

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

Also For A Hollow Body (For Cleans mainly, but will also have to do Pop Punk/Rock in a live situation) Would the
-Custom
or
-Custom/59 Hybrid
Work Better?

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I would try 1 meg pots before spending money on new pickups.

Re: Pop-Punk Pickup Suggestions

I was really hoping this would be suggestions for a tone like Dillinger Four, Alkaline Trio, The Bouncing Souls, Descendents, etc... I've always meant to look up what gear they use, but I never remember to do it when I'm around a computer. I'll probably do it now actually...

If there is any way you can swap the big hexes in the coil furthest from the bridge with regular hex screws, I think that it would focus the bottom of the Invader enough to suit you.
