I LIKE bass circuits for guitar. They don't get you traditional tones, but there's some cool noises to be had, especially since most bass amps and cabs have a wider frequency range than do traditional guitar amps.
One of the heaviest, most brutal tones I've ever gotten came from running my Carvin DC127-T into a Tubescreamer and through the tube preamp of a Hartke 200watt head into a Peavey 4x10 bass cab. The shelving EQ, along with the parametric and graphic gave me the ability to get taut, chest thumping lows, grinding mids, and screaming highs with relatively low gain and a ton of headroom.
